Wrapping gifts for the holidays might be more fun for me than opening them. I love using a variety of ribbons, papers, and even making my own wrapping paper! I posted a few videos on my Instagram story of some basic kraft paper I splattered with watered down white craft paint to use in a gift exchange, and I got so many questions! I figured it was time to give a full tutorial and – spoiler alert – it’s REALLY easy.

What you will need-
Kraft paper – This can be any color that you want! I almost always have brown, white and black on hand. I don’t like to use the really thick version – it doesn’t hold tape as well as the thinner versions like the one linked here.
Acrylic craft paint– Once again the colors are totally up to you on this. You’ll want about as much water as paint, mixed in a cup.
2 Paint Brushes– You’ll want a brush that is a little bit fuller, so it will absorb more of the watered down paint.

Step 1: Pick the color of paint you’re wanting to use and add enough water so that it will easily drip off of the paint brush.
Step 2: Roll out your kraft paper somewhere dry- you can even do this inside if you just layer more paper underneath to protect your floors!
Step 3: Grab your two paint brushes, dip them in the paint and splatter away! Leave the paper out flat for an hour or two while the paint dries completely.

I love projects like this for signaling that you really put some thought into your gift. It’s all about those personal touches, isn’t it? I used this paper to wrap up prints framed in spray-painted Walmart frames! Ha! But I think the time and personal effort put into the whole gift made it all a lot more special.

Here are a few more of my wrapping favorites!

My Favorite Christmas Tree Decorations

We usually put our tree up in our living room, but this year I felt like mixing it up! We moved some furniture around and put the tree up in our front room window. I love how it looks from the street! Don’t you love seeing neighbors’ trees all lit up in their windows?!

Here are my steps for decorating a pre-lit tree:

  1. Cotton tassels – I use about a yard per foot of tree!
  2. Wood bead garlands – Again about one strand per foot of tree.
  3. I prefer tree collars over skirts!
  4. I like to add black ornaments into my mix of new and antique ornaments. I stick with neutral colors here mostly!
  5. I tie one foot lengths of cut ribbons all around my tree for texture and color.
  6. Little brass bells finish off the look!

DIY Assymetric Fireplace Mantle Garland

Step 2: Join two lengths of faux cedar or pine garlands using short lengths of floral wire. Layer in faux eucalyptus garlands and preserved cedar boughs for color and depth.

Step 3: Hang clear Command hooks on your mantle. I placed two hooks high in the corners and one lower in the center. Hang your base garland on the hooks.

Step 4: Tuck in stems of preserved flowersleaves or feathers. Anything pretty that coordinates with the tones of your space! No need to secure these with wire. Just remember, even with an asymmetrical garland, use the center point of the mantle as a focal point. Starting at the middle, place the stems so they fall away from the center, just like curling your hair!

And that’s it! A semi-custom garland that you can use year after year, 100% made for your home!

  1. Master the Marathon Book – I’ve always love running, but it’s been a while since I’ve consistently trained. This year, I signed up for a marathon and the information in this book, written by and for women, is truly so helpful! I feel like I am training smarter and better than ever, as an almost 40 year old!
  2. Pre/During/Post Workout Beverages that aren’t hard on my stomach – BCAA’s / Protein Drink / Chia Gu / Electrolytes
  3. Cropped Tank – I buy almost all of my workout clothes at Nordstrom Rack. I find really cute Nike, Zella, Adidas and Under Armor clothes there for $15/20 each. Nothing motivates a great workout like cute workout gear, am I right?!
  4. Foam Roller Set – The difference between the way I feel after a long run when I stretch and roll out and when I skip it, is truly night and day! It’s worth taking the extra 10 minutes to help your body heal faster and better.
  5. Hokas – A cult favorite for a reason. I’ll be honest, they are not cute (though, these are the cutest of the Hokas, I think). I can run 10 miles in these and my feet will feel GREAT at the end of the run and not tired at all (my legs are a different story). It’s like running on two little clouds!
  6. Handheld Water Bottle – If it’s hot and I’m going on a long run not close to a gas station, this is the water bottle I turn to. It stays tight against your hand so it doesn’t feel like you’re holding it the whole time.
  7. Tiger Balm Pot & Pads – I LOVE Tiger Balm for sore muscles. It’s not too warm and not too cold (like BioFreeze) – it’s just right and, it’s not for everyone, but I even like the camphor in the scent.
  8. Sunscreen Stick – I never leave home without sunscreen on my face and this stays on, no matter how much I sweat during a run.
  9. Body Glide – I like my sports bras to fit very tight for running, and Body Glide is a MUST for avoiding chaffing.
  10. Sunglasses – If I wake up a little later than planned, I wear these sunglasses on my long runs. I hate running into the sun, but these stay on really well and look kinda cool too! No need to rock the 90s Oakleys look!
  11. Liquid Collagen & Trim – I have a 55 year-old friend who runs four marathons a year, every year, and swears by this liquid collagen for joint health. I have been taking it for about six months now and not only do my joints feel great but the new hair growth is insane – a total bonus!
  12. Belt Band – A great place to stash money, keys, phones and snacks. It’s not like a fanny pack where things bounce around.
  13. Compression Socks – These socks, along with my Hokas, do a great job of keeping my feet dry and feeling great.
  14. Superflex Leggings – I like the 7/8ths length of these leggings (and how about the under $20 price tag?!). This length is really cute with crew socks like the compression ones above.
  15. Apple Watch Band – This band color is the perfect cafe au lait neutral and is totally sweat-proof! I like the slimmer sides of the band.
  16. Stroppwaffels for runners – STROOPWAFFELS!!! For runners!! Need I say more? A great stocking stuffer!
  17. Headbands – Nothing worse than sweat in the eyes during a run! These are cute and do the job!
  18. Bra with Phone Pocket – When I’m wanting to run really light – no belt, nothing in my pockets, I pop my phone in the back of this sports bra and head out! You barely notice it’s there. Set it and forget it!
  19. Penetrex – No smells, no heat or cooling – just gentle but targeted and effective pain relief.
  20. Recovery Sandals – Again, not the cutest shoes ever made, but if you ran 15 miles in the morning, these sandals will be your best friend for wearing around the house the rest of the day!
  21. Hat– Sweat wicking, cute and SO lightweight! This is my favorite running hat that feels like a visor, but you don’t have to wear a visor. Win-win!

  13. “A River” Book – This book has the most beautiful illustrations, and is a great story about the power of imagination.
  14. Playhouse – I spent much of my childhood playing outside in and making treehouses, forts and sheds that we turned into playhouses, so I always like to put a playhouse in our backyard if I can. This one is super cute as-is, but would also make a really fun DIY project to spruce up!
  15. Push Bubble Puzzle – These pop-its are all the rage right now, and I love that these ones double as a puzzle.
  16. Art Easel – My kids love to paint with me and this easel is a great size, with plenty of storage.
  17. Lego Bouquet – These are SO cool! Such a fun project for older kids, and would be so cute on a shelf in their room!
  18. Doll Bed – Its amazing that DOLL furniture is this pretty! Margot is getting this bed for Christmas.
  19. Rain Boots – There is nothing cuter than a little kid in rain boots! These come in so many colors.
  20. Train Table – Train tables are great for hours of imaginative play. I love that everything fits in the drawer underneath for easy clean-up!
  21. Tonie Interactive Cube – I’ve heard so much about this interactive cube. It tells stories, sings songs, and so much more- all without a screen! Such a cool imagination booster.

  3. Always Pan – This pan has a cult following for a reason! Anything that is pretty enough to be left on the stovetop at all times, but is also super functional deserves some recognition. 4. Cotton Throw Blanket – Rust is one of my favorite fall/winter colors, and this crinkled cotton is so soft and lightweight

    8. Oversized Coat – Looks like a classy, expensive coat, but feels like pajamas. That’s a win in my book.
    9. Gold Bar Bracelet – You can have this bracelet engraved, and we love the unique clasp. Such a classic piece of jewelry.

    11. Candle Set – There are very few people I trust wholeheartedly with candle scents- but Anthropologie is definitely on the list. This set looks amazing, and I’m willing to bet it smells even better.
    12. Apple Watch Band – I’ve been wearing this same watch band for years- and I still love it! I like that it’s a little on the slimmer side.
    13. Silk Pillowcase – There’s a reason our grandmas all slept on silk pillowcases. They’re better for your skin and hair, and they don’t get hot the way that linen bedding can!
    14. Chelsea Boot – These boots are the perfect height, and I love the brown accent detail.
    15. Levi Ribcage Jeans – I don’t think I can emphasize this enough- Levi Ribcage Jeans are THE pinnacle of perfect denim. 4. iPhone Case – After a few years of paying to have my iPhone screen repaired semi-regularly so I could have a phone case that didn’t look or feel clunky, I discovered this brand. It’s slim but offers a lot of protection. And I love the classic tortoise shell design on the back.
