Marbled Paper at Paper Mojo

Paper Mojo has an amazing inventory of gorgeous papers. My favorite is this over-scaled marbleized paper. Kristen used a similar paper in an IKEA Ribba frame for over her living room sofa. Isn’t this an amazing look? I love the pattern and the colors. I’ve got my own sheet from Paper Mojo for framing too…

My friend Kristen could really use your vote. You can check out her before and after here along with some of the other great entries, chosen by the likes of Mr. Jonathan Adler and many other design celebrities like Grace from Design*Sponge. Voting closes Sunday – so why not check it out now? Click here and follow the link in the menu bar to ‘Vote.’ Kristen is contestant #7.

Now! A little bit about Kristen’s project! She was inspired by a dresser in Carrie’s bedroom in SATC2.

She found a pair of these vintage dressers for $60 and gave them new life with paint and some inexpensive hardware from a hardware in Dallas called Elliotts.

The small pulls were only $3.99 and the large were $7.99.

Congrats on making it to the final round, Kristen! Your dresser looks great!

Carleton Varney for HSN

Recently I got an email from HSN with a coupon for 15% off. I clicked on, thinking I might look to see if the Nate Berkus line had anything new for me. Before I could get to the Nate stuff I was reminded that Carlton Varney has a line for HSN. His look is very…

His look is very preppy, very southern. I love his style in small doses for common room or in full force for a little girls bedroom.

These sheets are great!

And how about this adorable ottoman? So cute for the bathroom, the end of a hallway or a little nook.

This vanity stool is a tie for my favorite piece in the line. Comes in all different colors.

But this bedding is what excited me most. It features my favorite Carlton V print – Tobacco leaf.

Okay, now. I know this image is not exactly current. But put on your ugly blinders for a sec and imagine this bedspread as a duvet. Ditch the unfortunate throw pillows and the stripey pieces and replace the euros and skirt with a crisp inky blue/navy trimmed out in white. Awesome, I think!

My husband has worked basically non-stop for the past three weeks. Thankfully, his project wrapped up yesterday and he’s taking the rest of the weekend off. Yay! We’re going to take advantage of this extra day with Michael to get our Christmas tree and decorate the apartment for the holidays.

Canadian House and Home

We’re keeping it pretty simple this year, partly because I sold 99% of our Christmas decorations before the move (regret!!).

On the list to do: Kissing balls to hang in doorways

Martha Stewart Living

A wreath to hang on the entry mirror. I saw this huge wreath at Bloomingdales and I liked the tiny little bows all over.

I’m thinking about trying this in my (very normal size) evergreen wreath with 1/4″ grosgrain. Probably mustard yellow?

Also we’re doing a smaller, potted Christmas tree. (For a great post on this subject, check out Design Mom)

Evelyn is getting into everything these days, so I figure having a smaller tree up on a table is a really smart idea. Plus we can put the gifts under and around the table.

Country Living

Bonus: I have plans to trim up the tree topiary-style post holidays and either keeping it in our apartment (do you think it would survive?) or taking it up to our rooftop garden.

House Beautiful

Happy weekend!

Book Art

I think this print by Alanna Cavanagh is really cool. I mean, who doesn’t love a good Penguin classic? And in this world of Kindles and audio books, I sort of like a reminder of how good it feels to hold a real book in your hands. image via a really fun online mag, Covet…

I’m thinking about using this technique to blow up the cover of an old copy of Raise High the Roofbeams, Carpenters, which is one of our family’s very favorite books. The cover is a great shade of goldenrod yellow (reminds me a bit of a yellow Albers square study print), and I love the quirky font Salinger always used.

Floral Play Chairs

I fell head over heals for these fabric-covered children’s chairs in the kids section at ABC. At $170 each though, I’m thinking this would be a good piece to DIY. At $170 each though, I’m thinking this would be a good piece to DIY.

The backs are obviously different, but I’m pretty sure my favorite kids chairs from the Conran shop would work really well for this project. (On sale for $30.60 each, available in pink, blue and white). The legs and the seat are very similar to the inspiration chair.

EDIT: Thanks to your comments everyone! The IKEA Minnen chair is the exact same frame! $16.99 each!

I’d just use a two-inch brush to paint on some Mod Podge or watered down Elmers glue on top of pretty quilting cotton that was cut to fit generously. (PS my favorite cotton prints are available at Purl SOHO – including Liberty of London Tana Lawns and adorable Japanese fabrics). Once the fabric has dried (and fully shrunk) after a day or two, trim the edges with a razor blade and then seal it all up with Polycrylic.

Sounds fun and easy, right!? I think I’m going to order a pair of chairs today.

I am such a huge fan of 20×200, a really great and affordable online art gallery. One Kings Lane is having a sale on gift cards to the site right now. $59 for a $100 gift card. I know I would be thrilled to get one or two of these for Christmas! I might just pick up a couple for myself before the sale ends on December 2. (And if you need a One Kings Lane account, click here to hook a sister up.)

Here are some of my favorites on 20×200 right now. I like to search by artist. It gives you little thumbnails of all the prints available on the site.

Very pretty day on Kite Hill

Perfect for that teenaged boy in your life! Love that inky blue.

I love cheeky art. This one is called Sad Vader.

The best art sucks you in and tells a story. Love this one called Ringside.

Cool? Or maybe a little creepy? Like, I’m thinking that looks a little too LOST smoke monster at first glance.

I really love this one of a volcanic land fissure in Iceland. The natural disaster swallowed up 360 houses in the 70’s. Can you imagine living in that house on the end there? I think they probably felt pretty lucky.

Subtle nature shot. Love the color here.

And of course the Christian Chaize that I’ve been eying for a while now…

Home Goods Rescues Me Again…

It’s probably been a week or so since I’ve sung my praises of Home Goods. High time for another post, I say! Remember this pretty console/bar that made the blog rounds? Guess what I picked up for a client this week at Home Goods? $149, baby!

Just a little white paint and a steady hand (or some painters tape), and I think we just saved $700. I have plans to mirror the shelves too.

Check out some of the amazing trims available at Joanns right now! I was seriously impressed – a major improvement from the last time I shopped their trims section.

Evelyn likes the zebra trim as much as I do!

Pink box pleats would be so cute on a glider slipcover for a little girls nursery.

Faux croc – maybe a little mini rug binding project?

Black and white stripes make almost anything a little better in my book

Gold!

Classic Greek key

I bought the entire spool of this leopard trim. It was on mega clearance.

Two different python patterns:

I ended up buying several yards of this rainbow ribbon. It’s sort of like an abstract painting of polkadots and I love it! (sorry that the photo is out of focus)

How pretty would this folksy (almost suzani?) trim be on simple white linen curtains from IKEA…

I bought some of this sort of tribal-like trim too. Love the colors:

Do you have any fun trim in your house? Send me a photo!

**PS Some of you asked about my nail polish. Sorry you have to look at my chipped nails in almost every picture! The polish is actually a really inexpensive one – Revlon’s Orange Flip. I’ve had it for a while, but I use it all the time. It’s a really wearable but fun orangey red.

If you can’t find the Revlon shade, Essie’s Clam Bake is another orangey red. Also, I think either Madewell or JCrew sells a great shade in-stores.
