The girls’ rooms are still not in order yet, and my guilt levels have been off the charts for the past few weeks. It’s time to get these little ladies more settled.
My sister sent me a link to this pretty bed that was listed on Craigslist and the price was right (cheap) so I went and picked it up the same day.
The full size frame is perfect for this little room. I have a pair of midcentury modern night stands in the garage that will fit just right here also.
The wood is not worth saving (even though I love the pretty design!).
There’s a cracked part on the headboard that needs to be filled probably with Bondo, which means we’ll need to paint the frame. I think white will make it look too PB Kids, so maybe something like black?
I want to upholster the inset of the frame. Probably not tufted this time, but I did a similar project here.
Ever since the yellow chair experiment, I’ve been thinking a lot about tone on tone frames and upholstery. Maybe a bright cobalt blue on the frame with this pale blue cotton fabric I picked up during a 50% off sale for about $9 a yard?
Maybe a contrasting tape under the nail heads, too?
Oh, this is going to be so pretty. I love the idea of doing a two-tone situation with blue and blue. That velvet, tape and nailhead would look lovely. The curved footboard makes it even more special. Love!
OH this is going to be so pretty! I've been loving tone on tone as well right now-cannot WAIT to see what you decide.
Ohhh I have been looking for a bed like this for so long!! Cant wait to see the transformation :)
I grew up with a bed almost JUST like this–curved in at foot and head, pattern in the wood on both, curving top. I loved it because it felt so grown up. I like the idea of doing something tonal and also keeping it in the grown up color realm (i.e. not white, not pink).
I have my grandparents bedroom set — they married in 1926. It's kind of like that and has the curved footboard. Believe it or not, I'm using the original mattresses!
What?! Mind blown.
I'm ready to change-up my girls' French Provincial beds, too. Was thinking of upholstering the insets of the headboard/footboard, so I'm eager to see where you go with this project.

What a beautiful bed, I'm in love with the curves! I can't wait to see all your pretty girls bedrooms when they are complete!!
What did you do with the pink tufted headboards? I LOVED those, would you ever re-use them? I love this bed too, just curious about the pink ones.
Gorgeous bed! It reminds me of the Pottery Barn one they (used?)to carry. I love the velvet with contrasting trim. I'm about ready to reupholster a small sofa with a similar look with navy velvet and contrasting trim. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
oh my that bed rocks! what a find! i think navy paint and that beautiful blue fabric would be smashing…

Oooooh, great find! I can't wait to see what you do with it — I'm sure it will look amazing!

It's going to be amazing seeing this piece transformed! I love the curves.
So so gorgeous!! Cannot wait to see what you do with it, you are amazing!!
Oh, that is such a pretty frame. Could you keep the wood tone for going around the inset?
I'm sure I have no idea what color I'd paint it. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Can't wait to see it!
Such a pretty little bed! And I feel you about the curve of the bed frame. I specifically bought my daughters' antique bed set because of that.
I love the idea of tone on tone and I think the lighter velvet inside keeps its kid-like while the darker frame makes it a great transition piece as they age. Can't wait to see it!

You inspire me. I am embarking on a huge task of renovating and extending our farmhouse in Scotland, UK. If I could find a bed like this I would be over the moon. I would go for a pink/lilac tweed with a velvet piped trim. But can't wait to see your transformation. Thank you

This is going to look fabulous once you're through with it. And the foot board curve back is my favourite part too. A bit sad you have to cover over that design.

Claire is a lucky little girl–I can't wait to see how you transform this bed that already has so much potential.
I'm curious: what did you do with the girls' previous headboards? Did you sell them or do you plan to reuse them?
What a shame the wood isn't able to be saved – it'd be so pretty with a scrub up. Still – I can't wait to see the magic you work with it – such a beautiful shape.
I cannot wait to see the colors you choose. You've got such an eye that I know it will be magnificent.
Such a pretty bed- I can't wait to see what you do to it. I would go for something sophisticated but timeless- nothing that's going to look outdated in a couple of years. What about a soft grey? I love that light blue velvet too- oh man, what a fun project!
Oh, it's going to be lovely! I love the purple velvet headboard – I want it!
That bed is wonderful! You have the best Craigslist luck. I love the idea of a blue tone-on-tone. It's going to be gorgeous. I can't wait to see it finished.
I like the blue on blue idea! Black seems too mature for a little girl's room but you can make anything work! Great bed!
I love a curved footer. Combined with lots of white fluffy linens I imagine it would be like being tucked into a cloud.
Are the head and the foots the same height? I'd worry that once the beds loaded up with pillows the header wouldn't be seen.
Gorg cotton velvet for $9 a yard…DREAMY! And, I've been dying for a bed with the curved footboard like that! Claire is such a rad little girl (hello inspiration photo with neon bed!) I bet she would love it in black. I don't know if this is possible, but I wonder if you could upholster it with some of those black and white striped Ikea cotton rag rugs.
That is such a great bed! Painted and upholstered tone on tone sounds so fun, I can't wait to see the final result!

Such a pretty bed! I'm having a hard time picturing black paint with the blue fabric choices but i'm sure it will look flawless when you're finished! One idea I had (this might be awful don't judge, haha) what about a dark eggplant-y purple color instead of black? Or maybe Navy blue to go with the cobalt and pale blue for even more tone on tone?
Can't wait to see…
My daughter has a bed like that too…but I didn't paint it….maybe that's what's wrong with her room. I was "inspired by" (meaning copied with Emily's approval) the tween room Emiky Henderson designed
Hi Jenny! I haven't commented in eons b/c I've been reading LGN while tandem nursing the twins and I just don't have enough hands! (TMI?) Anyway, have been wanting to tell you how happy I am for you guys to have found such a great home and it's just delightful to watch you enjoy working your magic on every room!
I squealed out loud when I saw the bed photo b/c I've been hoarding a nearly identical bed in my storage room for almost a decade, awaiting the day my eldest has a room of her own. I love the tone on tone idea- can't wait to see what you decide and which fabrics you add to the mix!
BTW- remember this?

I'm finally getting around to morphing it into a twin boys nursery! I'll show you when I'm done…
love it!! that design is really cool but it will be so fab post make-over. that is the best kind of princess bed for a little lady!!
I want a bed like this so bad. The curved foot board is everything. Claire is so lucky!
Love the frame. Lucky girl!! Cant wait to see the finished product I am is will be super cute.
Sarah
I love the taupe and blue! That is going to be such a perfect bed for her.
I have to do a headboard for my grandmother right now too so I'm watching what you do at the same time for ideas!
I would paint it grey with the blue velvet. Oh, such a lovely bed!! Can't wait to see it upholstered.
Beautiful bed frame! As soon as you said you didn't want white or black, I thought cobalt blue as well. The contrast tape idea is super too, maybe in white? It would especially highlight the gorgeous curves of the foot board. Blue for a girl's bed frame is great! Pink should be banned from girls rooms. Great find!
I'm so excited to see what you do with the bed because I have essentially the same bed for my daughter and have done absolutely nothing with it! It's such a tight fit with the thicker mattress that changing the sheets are such a pain that I keep contemplating getting rid of the bed but she loves it so I never quite follow through. Can't wait to see what direction you go in!
Love, love, love it! I can't wait to see how you upholster it. I found a very similar twin-sized bed last week for my son. The curved footboard stole my heart. I am planning to modify his a little bit and then paint it a fun color.
Were you in Boca Raton, FL when you found that velvet?!
First of all I enjoy your blog so much, im glad im still, in 2012, because I dont want to finish it.Looking forward to it everyday. I just started a blog myself but dont expect much, its just fairytales: ) But maybe nice to tell by this bedside : )
Greetings from Holland
Your idea to paint and upholster the insert of the frame is great! The style of the bed is perfect for a young lady!
That's a gorgeous bed even if you didn't do anything! Great find! Can't wait to see what you do!
Beautiful frame – I would do two tones, a lighter one on the curved part of the foot boards, you must be excited!
Good morning, two of my granddaughters have a bed like this, one with ikat (made from second hand curtains) and one made of 3d butterfly bedding
just a suggestion: )
Greeting from holland
What a beautiful bed! I recently picked up a headboard at a thrift store and plan to upholster the inset. Not sure if I'll go with tufts or not though I love the look.
That bed is great bones. Love the idea of upholstering it!
Please hurry. I cannot wait to see it!!!
