I posted my cleaning schedule last week when I shared my cleaning closet redo and some of you were curious if my girls help with the household work.
Evie helps out too, but my two older girls are old enough to do some real cleaning as part of their weekly chores. To make their chores a little more exciting (a stretch, I know!) and to give them more ownership, the girls and I decided they needed their own cleaning kits. So we went to Home Depot together and shopped for some supplies to make the kits. We found a huge display with duct tape in all different colors and we thought that would make a cute (and waterproof!) decoration for simple white buckets.
We also picked up some colorful nylon cording.
The girls and I worked together to wrap the buckets in layers of the duct tape. If you roll the bucket while pulling the tape really taut, there won’t be any air bubbles or wrinkles.
Then we used a hot glue gun to wrap the handles in the nylon cording.
It’s surprising to me how putting in even a little extra effort to make something beautiful gives a household item so much more importance. My girls love these buckets and they’ve been diligently doing their chores lately! Success!
The Home Depot and P&G want to give away a few things today so one of you readers can kick start your own cleaning and organizing project! To enter to win a $200 gift card to The Home Depot along with some cleaning products including Febreze Air Effects, Bounty Select-A-Size and Charmin Ultra Soft, simply leave a comment on this post and share what project you have in mind. Or share what you do to help get your kids excited to help cleaning!
We need a facelift for our laundry room! Thanks for the inspiration!
I'm slowly working my way through our house–puttying, scraping, scrubbing, painting; I'm at Home Depot all the time!
I've been doing so well with little organizing projects in our little rented home lately and feel like I"m finally on the home stretch. This would sure help finish things off!
The entryway off of our kitchen needs some sprucing up. I would love to paint and add some crown molding. Knocking down all the cobwebs would also be a vast improvement. :)
My house needs a top to bottom dusting. Blinds, fans, baseboards. If only I could find a way to get my 4 year old excited about helping. Maybe I'll put together her own dusting caddy.

Those buckets are adorable. I love the makeover of the cleaning closet!
I am in the process of moving twins into their own rooms and reclaiming the "toy" room as the master it started as when we first moved in so believe me, projects, cleaning, packing and organizing are happening here little by little every day but I think this would go towards building out a small closet in the eaves into open shelves for one of the girls' room.
I have been doing some retrofitting and organizing of closets myself lately (why do all closets come with one shelf and a hanging bar?! This would sure help with the last couple I have to organize!
Our daughter loves to help clean but our son doesn't so he usually needs a good bribe :) We often give them quarters to spend at garage sales on Saturday mornings. That way they have more fun at garage sales and they can choose what they want to purchase.
I would use this to build my chicken coop!
I need to organize my entryway. My son loves pushing the swiffer around. He is a big help on cleaning day!
These are great! I have been taking weekly trips to Home Depot since I recently bought my first home and it needs a lot of…assistance. This house is the first in almost ten years of living in small apartments that offers me tons of closets – so I'd like to get them properly organized!
I've been dying to turn the dining room closet into something a bit less like a coat closet, and more like a party and tableware station…this would be the perfect jump start!
I need to organize my laundry room! Thanks :)
Looking forward to making over my own cleaning closet!
I need a cute bucket to movivate me too and I'm the mom:)I need more organization in every room in my home, but I need paint, supplies for shelves, and a new mirror for our guest bath!
My kids are young, but I've learned to encourage them to help me with the bigger chores so it becomes a family activity, rather than a chore. They love helping me with dishes, laundry, vacuuming and mopping.
I would use it to *finally* organize my laundry room / utility closet, which is a tiny, disorganized, embarrassing, mess of a room right now!
My office closet! We just moved a few months ago, and all of my important paperwork and all of my craft supplies are thrown together in boxes (and on the floor). Time to get everything organized!
Love this idea!
Inspired to clean and organize my storage unit.
I'm planning a remodel on an area on my main level. Part of it will incorporate a cleaning closet which I am very excited about. I will love having space to stock up on supplies, and I love your great ideas on making it attractive, too.
I would use it to finally organize our tiny, messy, embarrassing excuse for a laundry room/utility closet!
I plan to organize my pantry!
This bucket is a really great idea. I have 1 girl that loves cleaning and would love her own cleaning bucket, 1 girl who loves to clean when it's allowance time only and 1 girl who doesn't know the meaning of cleaning.
I think the project I would most love to do is make our "coat closet" into a real coat closet and not a re-purposed pantry.
Organizing the nightmare that is our storage room
I've slowly been reorganizing all of the closets in my house.
we desperately need to clean out and organize our outdoor closets where we keep tools, paint supplies, lawn maintenance stuff, etc. they are a hot mess!
Organize and beautify my laundry room.
A major garage cleaning is in the future at our house – plus spring is right around the corner and that means the whole house gets a sprucing!
organizing supplies!
I would love to freshen up my laundry closet!
I have finally found the energy to begin anew in my house. After years of eldercare for multiple parents, our exhaustion and lack of time meant that nothing ever got done in our own home. I love the buckets! Anything that makes cleaning up and out more fun is a definite win/win. The buckets can be used for so many things, too.
The stairway down to our basement off of our kitchen(where we have plastic bags and mops hanging and the broom just resting on the stairs) is so dingy!!! It hasn't been painted in decades, the old wood stairs look terrible and we could do a much better job of making it cleaning product friendly!!!

I can't wait to tackle our ONE (yes, one) closet in our new apartment. We downsized and unfortunately when we moved everything "extra" got tossed into the closet to be dealt with "later." Well, it's officially later! This would definitely help!!
clean and organize our school room!
my daughter has a 2 year old and a new baby. their whole house is a chaotic mess. the kitchen especially is a disaster zone. I would make her a bucket and then use it first to give her kitchen a fresh new start!
Love the buckets! We would put the money towards cork floors in a portion of the basement!
I would love to tackle our one (yes, ONE) closet in our new apartment! We recently downsized, and unfortunately when we moved everything got tossed into the closet to be dealt with "later." Well, it's officially later! This would really help! :)
I have a bathroom remodel project I'm itching to do; this would be very helpful!
We are in the middle of renovating our home! There are a million things I would tackle if I won! :)
At 20 months old our little girl already loves cleaning of every sort. How do I make that stay? I would actually like to buy supplies to build a dining table.
Cute cleaning buckets for kids=brilliant! We live in a house built in 1923, so we always have a project.
We are about to start renovating a bathroom!
I'm about to buy a fixer upper so cleaning, organizing, building…it's all on the agenda.
I would use it to finish our mud room makeover.
Great giveaway! We started a big purge last month and have lost steam. So I would use this to kickstart that again. Next up to purge is closets!
What a fabulous idea – my kids love personalized things that reflect their personality! Since we've been cooped up during this dreadful Chicago winter, we've been organizing and purging. About to undertake a beadboard ceiling project!
I need to organize my craft supplies!!! Thanks!!
Oh man, my house could definitely use a deep cleaning! As for specific projects, I've been thinking for some time that I need to install a laundry line, or an indoor drying rack of some sort in my small laundry room. Thanks for the giveaway!
Carving out a space for a small office–need to deep clean before I settle in. Thanks for the chance to win.
I really want to add a desk to a bookcase in my apartment and decorate a chest I have
