I like the gray bonded leather I got at Home Fabrics – the color was nice and neutral and the material would wear really well. But I think the gray is probably too close to the floor color and I don’t want the space to get too neutral (most everything else in our kitchen will probably be a neutral color other than the red lanterns and the accessories).

My friends over at One Kings Lane were so kind to share photos of this amazing kitchen redo they posted on the OKL blog this week (they even sent me over some outtakes). Isn’t this soft blue-gray color perfection? Such a contrast from the before images!

The kitchen belongs to OKL editor Kerstin Czarra. She and stylist Megan Phlug worked together to completely transform this small NYC kitchen with just a little paint, new brass hardware and a few really well-chosen accessories.

I had started work on doing the upholstery myself, but the tetanus side-effects really wiped me out for those first two months or so. We ended up buying a car this year (did I mention that earlier?), so one day in October when my resolve and spirits were both low, I loaded up the sofa and took a little day trip down to my trusty upholsterers back in Maryland.

She saved the day and helped keep the house running and distracted my girls so they didn’t get too scared about the situation. (I’m doing much better, by the way :) One evening when I was recovering at home, Mom came back from a walk around the neighborhood with the girls. She asked me if I had seen the purple chandelier in the neighbor’s house down the street.
