This year, I was thrilled to work with Sherwin-Williams again and I thought it would be a good opportunity to try another faux painting technique. My color is green this year, so of course there was only one option: malachite.

These were some of the images I referenced before starting my project (and I’ll be honest – it was a little intimidating to tackle this one, but it ended up being a breeze!). I decided to do a bit of a bluer shade, like the colors in this Celerie Kemble chair, but just a tad more green.

Before I started, I also looked at the techniques other DIYers have tried. Here’s a little round up of the posts that were super helpful to me:

This scan below from a vintage book of faux painting techniques was an interesting read. I ended up doing something very similar for my project.

My photos and tutorial will be posted next Monday and I can’t wait to share. There are 13 other design bloggers posting their projects all next week too. It’s going to be an amazing week of colorful befores and afters! :)

  2. Thanks for including my box in your round-up jennifer!! I love your posts because they are always so informative and include so many variations…there is something for everyone! :)

  3. Looking forward to this! I loved your inlay tutorial last year and have it earmarked for a side table in a nursery one day. I just painted my desk in oil based enamel per your console table and I think it turned out pretty well for a beginner! I loove how shiny the paint looks!

  4. How lucky of you to draw the Pantone color of the year – these are gorgeous malachite looks and can't wait to see your project. We were also happy to our faux fiddle leaf fig tree in Celerie's Kips Bay room again and just below, our little leaf-covered pot with pink roses in Mimosa Lane's pictures!

  5. Such a tease! This is going to be so amazing, I already know it. You are so crazy creative that I am DYING to see this project. You had lots of inspiration thats for sure- I mean malachite walls?!? LOVE!!

  6. I can't wait to see what you do. Thanks for referencing the Malachite sheets on HSN. I've been looking for emerald sheets and these will be perfect! And I'll probably order the sapphire blue for the guest room!

  7. Jenny, I devour any post with the word malachite in the title. I am kind of obsessed and have been hoping to make some malachite boxes like Aestates. Imagine my surprise to see one of my projects in your roundup! Thank you for including my faux malachite knobs…they are my favorite thing in my new studio.

Can't wait to see your project!

  8. Such gorgeous inspiration photos! Thank you so much for including my DIY Malachite tray. I'm obsessed with it! And those Malachite photo mats are to DIE for!

  9. I first discovered malachite as a rock-loving kid and STILL mourn the tiny malachite obelisk treasure I'd just purchased and then lost at my grandma's. Maybe a malachite DIY would help ease my pain. :) Can't wait to see the tutorial!
