Our bedroom is starting to come together. I guess really all I have left is to figure out a headboard (that’s why we have an extra row of pillows stacked on our bed – something soft to rest our backs on for the time being!) and maybe a little art project for the long wall to the right here. There’s also a chair on the other side of the room that could probably use new upholstery. But for now we’re enjoying our recently purchased bedside chests, lamps and rug (on super-sale!). The DIY roman shades are working beautifully (still enamored with the tumbling block tape trim!) and the art has been hung. I’m happy with both the vintage oil painting on the window side of the bed and the swan print on the right side:
Remember this post? I ended up buying the swan print thinking it was going to make it up in the gallery wall in our living room, but somehow it fit our bedroom vibe better. It’s a little funny how much I love swan photography because I’m actually not the hugest fan of birds in real life (I swear the pigeons can sense my distain and they seek me out). But swans! Aren’t they just hauntingly beautiful? And I think they photograph so well, sort of in the same way horses do.
I layered the swan print with a small abstract pastel (that looks so blah here in these photos – promise it’s a great little piece in person). I bought it at the flea market a couple years ago and completely forgot about it. When I was looking in the basement for a frame for the swan, it resurfaced, and I think the two pieces were meant to be paired. I like how they work together in the space since I wanted a contained amount of color in here (this green Brunschwig wallpaper and bright blue door are in the hall just outside our room).

Monika and K Krew – the walls are Ben Moore Anchor Gray. It's a charcoal gray with blue undertones, similar but a little darker than the Farrow and Ball Down Pipe I have on my kitchen cabs. It's a new favorite color – one of those great ones that changes a lot in the different light over the course of the day.
Hey Mandy! I bought the frame at Blicks art supply randomly! I think it was like $25 or something? I didn't paint the frame – it was that sort of yellowing/gold wood tone when I bought it. Sort of an interesting color, huh? I kind of liked it against the wall color.
Swans are perfect for the bedroom, in asian pottery they are symbolic for marriage and good luck!
so beautiful! reminds me of the town of lucerne, switzerland where dozens of white swans swim around the lake.

I would love a swan print. We grew up close to a town we loved to visit because of the river and swans that swam there. Lots of summers spent feeding them too-it brought back memories seeing your pretty print!

Just curious, given the lovely colors of your room, have you considered a black swan art print? It might make a lovely statement piece.
I was going to say they are beautiful, which they definitely are. But then I read Grace's comment…symbol for marriage and good luck…every bedroom should have swans! :)
Do you like that rug? Would you recommend it for a living room? Is the different height of the jute lines noticeable when you walk on it? Your bedroom looks beautiful.

Carolyn and Jarymane: The rug is great! A steal for the price. It's about an inch thick, so it's a bit of a step up to walk up on to it, but the weave is flush on the surface.
I think it would look great in a LR or DR.

Kate – all our ceilings are White Dove. The ceilings in this room are really low and the room doesn't always get the best light. I worried about painting it all the same charcoal color (too cave-like). But if I had the time, I totally would have painted it a lighter gray. I'm probably going to put crown moulding in here too, so maybe I'll paint the ceiling then? I usually like to do a lighter version of the same color.

I think I bought the alarm clock at IKEA actually? It might have been west elm, but I'm less confident about that. Pretty sure it was IKEA, about $5 and not all that long ago.

I have a swan photo taken at a nearby wildlife refuge that i purchased at the goodwill. It has a yellow frame and a green mat that make it horribly dated, but seeing your yellow frame, it may just need a new mat.
I like the idea of hanging it next to the bed, I might try that after I finish wallpapering the room.
