Weekend Recap

Can you believe it’s Thanksgiving week already!? I’m excited! We had a great, super chill weekend. We went to the Met on Saturday with a friend who was in town on business. The girls love the Egyptian wing best at the museum, not surprisingly. (Weren’t you super into Egyptology as a kid? I totally was.)…

The girls love the Egyptian wing best at the museum, not surprisingly. (Weren’t you super into Egyptology as a kid? I totally was.) They also really liked the modern art gallery. I think it’s cool how kids are always drawn in by the big Pollock. I noticed probably four or five other children hovering here and talking about the artist’s approach (“did he paint it? did he pour it?”). I hope my girls grow up loving art as much as Michael and I do.
Yesterday was really low key because we’re all fighting off colds. It was a good excuse the lay low and watch some movies and get excited for the short week ahead of us!
I’m prepping my Thanksgiving table and it got me and my assistant Colleen thinking about dinner plates. We worked together to find some really cute ones for all the upcoming holiday dinner parties. I don’t really have holiday-specific china, but I feel like anything goes with holiday decorations anyway. My favorite is mixing patterns; like, the dinner plates are one pattern, and the salad plates something else in different colors and scale, etc. Also, I’m super into gold flatware and pick it up whenever I stumble on random pieces at flea markets.

What’s your Thanksgiving table going to look like this year? Any fun, inexpensive plate patterns I missed?

I’m working on getting up some more living room tours for you this week, so come back later today for a really exciting one. (Hint: this woman has no fear of color!)

  1. Sometimes I look around my own house and mentally write a house tour for your blog. But your friends never seem to have eruptions of toys all over the place.

  2. Your girls are so sweet! Glad yall had a nice, relaxing weekend. Instead of registering for china when I got married, all the important women in my life had a shower and gifted me a place setting of their own choice. I love it all so much and can't wait to set my table for Thursday! (here is a little story about my china: http://daffoldilshope.blogspot.com/2011/11/my-china-cabinet.html )
Have a great MOnday! Love the new posts about people's homes, they are so inspiring!

  3. Loved this little peak into your weekend. I loved the egyptians as a little girl too! I think "walk like an egyptian" helped with that, but also my gradfather had traveled there when my mom was young and brought he back a cartouche with her name inscribed. I was always so fascinated with it.

    Good memory…

Hope you have a great week!

  4. Can't get over the cuteness of your girls. And the drippy painting (I totally should know the artist…) is a gorgeous color palette. (Which is partly why it's in a totally important museum, duh.)

  5. Ha! This year we're eating at my brother's house, and I think my sister-in-law is still scrambling to find a new plate pattern after successfully ditching his bachelorhood John Deere pattern plates.

As for me, I'm still trying to figure out when I can get back into a pottery studio to make my own. :/

  6. Oh, that sounds like such a great weekend (well, except for the colds..) I'm loving the green floral dinner plates, and I agree that dinnerware needs to work for lots of occasions- not one day a year!
