I’ve got a couple of meetings this morning, but then I’m heading uptown to the Nate Berkus Show filming – and to meet a lot of other design bloggers. So fun!

I was talking to my husband about Nate Berkus today and I told him that I think it’s amazing that Nate is so mainstream, but also really respected in design circles. His work is really beautiful.

One of my very favorite projects was Katie Lee Joel’s townhouse that was featured in Domino. THOSE WINDOWS!!

And remember her closet with the gold leafing!?

I genuinely enjoyed reading Nate’s book Home Rules. I think I got my copy at Ross for like $3.99 or something, but it is worth the full jacket price. A pretty fun read – I especially like the parts about flea markets and antiquing.

And of course we all love Nate’s line for HSN:

Chevron Dhurrie Rug

Big (!) and beautiful ikat bowl for $30. (and just in case, ikat is pronounced ee-cot. I would hate to hear about a run-in with Nate B where you told him how much you love his eye-cat bowl)

Pair of throw pillows for $20

Adorable sheet set for $40

I love the design of this coffee table, I wish the reviews were a little more reassuring though.

Batik fabric covered tray (I’m digging batiks (done right) generally these days…)

I’ve used this little settee before in the gray and yellow ikat. I think another client is going to go with the green velvet. It’s really a great little piece and is the perfect size for an odd space.

Octagonal ottoman – dying to use this one somewhere.

Cute for over a bed! And $70 is not bad for a sunburst mirror.

I’ll be sure to recap on the filming tomorrow. Can’t wait to meet some of you!

xx

  1. Have fun, I went a few weeks ago before school began and now it is after school activities and meetings that keep me from attending today's show, Say hi to Nate.

  2. Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU!!! You have saved me from embarrassing myself in front of Nate, (should I ever meet him)and more importantly my designer friends. I have avoided saying Ikat in front of anyone because I KNEW that I was pronouncing it wrong. I actually was thinking about calling a designer fabric store and asking if they had any "eye-cat" in stock. I know they would have corrected me, and then I would know how to pronounce it. But, thanks to you, I now know how to pronounce it!

  3. Actually, it's pronounced ik-kat (as in ik-cut, not kaht or cot, and not a long ee).

Love your blog and Nate too!

  4. I did run into Nate! At a Babies r Us in Irvine of all places??? I was too flustered with my first "celeb" sighting to say anything at all though:(

    Have fun at the show!

  5. so jealous of you all attending the show today!

has anyone seen the chevron dhurrie rug in the "sea green" color? it looks blue in the photos, but is it actually green in person? the blue looks perfect for my living room, but if it's actually greener, not so much…

  6. I have that coffee table, and I wrote one of the reviews. Mine was the one where the glass came broken, but HSN's customer service went above and beyond to make it all right.

I really couldn't be happier with the table. Whoever said it was rickety probably didn't assemble it correctly, IMO. And I was also pleasantly surprised at the size of the thing. So often when you get a pretty piece at a surprising cost, it's such a small scale. Anyway, I really like the table and am quite happy with it. Here it is (sans glass still) in my living room.

  7. there must be something about him this month. I just started reading his book recently as well. It is worth having in your library for sure. I didn't know he had a show though…how do I find that?! Can't wait to hear how your experience goes.

  8. Wow, you definitely enlightened me on how to pronounce ikat! I've totally been thinking eye-cat every time I read it!! And I have another thing to look for the next time I'm at Ross. Have fun on the show!

  9. I attended his show a couple of weeks ago. Front row and Julianne Moore and of course Nate. It was great! He even made a comment to me about my pregnant belly.

  10. So great to meet you tonight Jenny!
I've been reading your blog for so long now; it was thrilling to meet you (ie ambush you ha ha) in person. Hope you had fun!

  11. Since there's been some discussion about the pronunciation of "ikat," I checked the Merriam-Webster dictionary online. They even have a voice command that allows you to listen to the pronunciation. And it is as Jenny suggested, ee-cot. Hope the show was a blast, Jenny. Love your blog.
