Maybe some rosettes on the tiles to break it up?

Adding moulding makes the mirror look more expensive, less DIY.

I really love the idea of hanging art on the mirror.

I have a feeling there is a DIY project in my future involving a small dining room and a box of inexpensive mirror tiles from the hardware store. Before seeing this photo I would have gone with plain, flat finish mirrors, but I actually like the look of the bevel here.

Ooh. How cool would a wall of octagonal mirrors be?

Dorothy Draper Chests

I’m dreaming of where the Draper chest should live in our next home. Should it go in our new living room?

Or maybe I could find it a sister and put them in my next office?

OR! Maybe I could use it in my future bedroom, a la Melissa Warner of Messucco Warner Miller. I’m so obsessed with her whole apartment, but this bedroom absolutely sings to me.

P.S. Once upon a time I was shopping for a client at the Cambridge Antiques Market and I stumbled across a tulip alabaster lamp almost exactly like the ones above, except it was a little smaller. I went back three times to admire it and on the third trip, I was determined to just fork over the $125 (big bucks for our student budget). Of course the lamp was gone by then and to this day I wish I would have just bought it the first time. So, friends, learn from my mistake. If you really really love something and it’s a unique piece – BUY IT! Or you will be kicking yourself for many years to come.

One of my favorite things is getting emails from my lovely readers with photos of their projects! I think it would be fun to feature one or two of these projects each week.

First up is a beautiful entry way decorated by Kristen Dowd in Dallas, TX. Kristen saw my post about using pierced screens here and wanted to share her own creative idea. She found two pierced screens at a junk shop and is using one screen for a headboard (photos to come!) and the second screen she used to layer behind a mirror in her entry. Isn’t this a great look? AND THAT CHAIR!!!

Kristen runs her own interior decorating business called Gypsy Soul Interiors. You can contact her here. She also has a shop at The White Elephant in Dallas’ downtown Design District.

I think it would be fun to try and paint an oversized and stylized floral/vine pattern in the entry way/wall of our next place. I like a loose design, sort of like this pattern I spied on the walls at Forever 21 a while back.

Probably not yellow though. Maybe midnight blue? With a huge antique mirror.

Maybe I’ll buy a couple of floral design books in the meantime and sketch up some ideas…

Maybe something more like these colors:

MSL

It seems like black botanicals are sort of hard to come by? I searched eBay and etsy and then I moved to Amazon. There I stumbled across this book about Mary Delaney.

It sounds like she was a fascinating society woman and artist in her day (the mid-late 1700’s), who, between the ages of 72 and 82, made over 1,000 botanical works constructed almost entirely from cut paper. Can you imagine!?! I am endlessly inspired.

Lucky us, the British Museum allows downloading and printing of their images for personal use! Here are some of Mrs. Delaney’s many works.

These jeans have been making the blog rounds recently, but I just need to throw in my own “Amen” to the greatness that is the Always Skinny Mid-Rise Jean. I am so happy with how they are getting me through the ‘in between sizes/postpartum phase’.

Also, these are really comfortable (great support for flats) and the leather is nice for the price. Who can complain about a Repetto knock-off for less than $40? They do run large, so be sure to buy a full size down.
