The stone fabricators came last Friday and installed the four pieces of black Fossil Shell Limestone around our existing firebox!
I love the way it adds some movement and texture to the fireplace.
Here’s right after it got installed, but before I gave everything a good scrub. You can see how the installers did a really great job of seaming the four separate pieces.
I love how the fossil shell pattern is more concentrated in the upper right and the lower left corners. It feels balanced and not too crazy.
We installed the tv and mushroom sconces over the weekend and later today I’m going to tackle the dust on the floors (again!). I’ve also been doing a little decorating, which makes me feel like I can breathe again! We live in a house! With seating! Life is good. :)
I will take some of the after photos today to share with you. The painters came on Saturday and did some touch ups needed on the sided of the fireplace surround, and I also wiped down the firebox and a lot of the soot marks went away. I had planned to paint it black with the special paint for firebrick, but I like the contrast of the lighter gray brick. I think I’ll leave it as is for now.
This room is stunning!Like that you are keeping the brick gray.. must feel good to finally have a room to relax in!
love how it is coming together so far. what a transformation!

I might have to eat crow on the tv over the fireplace, I'm usually one of those haters…. I cannot believe the transformation! Looks lovely. :) -Caitlin
Looks so great! Can't wait to see how you style it!!
Love the black you have added to the space and can't wait to see all of your touches once you get "in" to the room! Thank you for your never-ending inspiration…I spent the weekend cleaning out the lovely old Thai cabinet in our master BR, lining the drawers with some velvet and setting out all of my stashed away lovely Asian dishes, silver boxes & even a great stone bust I had forgotten about to display my jewelry! Added a pair of small lamps and it is lovely…would never have done it without your posts!!
Looks AMAZING!! Can't wait to see your sconces.
Love how this looks already!
This room is amazing!
Can`t wait to see everything in place, with furniture and all.
Thank you for sharing.
Lov and hugs

What vacuum, duster, etx. will you use on your hardwood floors. I am very interested in your suggestions , hints that help with dust and dog hair.
What will you be using to 'dust' vacuum your hardwood floors. Would love a vacuum recommendation that does carpet and hardwoods.
Oh wow .. that looks fantastic !
I love the colors .. I am so wishing I had kept looking until we found a house with a fireplace .. Maybe I should go looking again :)
It looks amazing already — I can't wait to see the true after photos! I bet it's stunning!

Really, really freakin stunning!
IN LOVE with the black! Love love love. Its all coming together SO WELL!! Cant wait to see it with the GG sconces… I want to marry those.
P.S. Since you have wood right up to the fireplace and not a border of tile/stone are you worried about ashes/sparks from the fire landing on it and marking the wood up?

Oh looking so good! I think I vote for the interior firebox black and make some pretty white birch logs pop (in between seasons of course)…what a fun transformation!
I just bought my first home and have my first fireplace and mantle! I'm beyond excited to decorate it for the seasons and holidays!
Nice giveaway! Love the colors of the garland against the black fireplace.
what paint brand did you use?
