A few of you asked about the fabric on my hot pink pillows (seen here).
I pulled one of my favorite tricks here and used standard bed pillow cases to make pillow covers. These were Marimekko shams from the clearance aisle at HomeGoods.
Just use three of the already finished edges and then add your own zipper on the fourth (bottom) edge. Sometimes you can get two pillows out of one king-sized sham! These two pillows ended up costing me about $7 total, including the two zippers, and only took a few minutes at the sewing machine to finish.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend! And if you’re celebrating, I hope it’s a very happy Easter or Passover for you and your family!
xx
You're always so clever!! Great deal, now if only I could sew. (I can barely fix a hole in my sock!) I meant to say something when you posted this photo earlier but I love this view of your apartment, it's great seeing how all your projects have come together so beautifully! Happy Easter!!
How incredibly CLEVER! I wouldn't have thought of that in a million years…and I would have drooled and lusted over those cases and eventually discarded them for not working on our beds. Smarty pants!
LOVE that idea!! Now I'll be on the hunt for shams :) Do you mind sharing about your rug? I love the stripes and and hint of yellow. It seems like I'm on the never ending rug hunt!!
How clever! And what a great tip! I never have sewn a zipper but I really need to learn fast. Happy Easter to your family!
Great idea! I love marimekko fabrics too…too bad we don't have a HomeGoods here (Boooo!!). Looks great on your white chairs!
best,
Katherine
Such a good idea!! And fantastic find at home depot!!
Xx. Patience
Love the print! Pink is always a good idea. Great way to be crafty with the shams!
Brilliant! Now, I'm going to be scouring Homegoods for some pillowcases. I actually bought a king-sized DVF case from HG a few weeks but my husband vetoed it for our bedroom so I returned. Should have kept it and turned it into pillow covers. Now, I'll know better. Happy Easter!
The pillows turned out great with the Marimekko covers. Happy Easter to you all!!
Love this idea!! I've made pillows out of may other non pillow materials, don't know why I haven't thought of this!! And they are machine washable!! Brilliant!!
oooh I LOVE THE COLOR!!!!!
Always great, thrifty ideas from you!
Thanks so much for the inspiration! :-)
This is such a neat idea! Love it when I get the chance to use what I already have
these are on clearance on the crate & barrel website for $9 each! not as good of a deal as yours but still great! i might have to order them… :) thank you for the inspiration, all the colors you have combined in your home are so fun!
What a fantastic way to use gorgeous pillowcases! Thank you for sharing it. :) I love pillowcases, but really, how many pillows can a girl put on the bed? (Let me rephrase that – without her husband objecting.)
Love Marimekko. Love her vintage designs. Bright primary colors, they were wonderful.
Love this! Big inspiration!

Love it! SO looking out for pillow cases on sale now…
Those are beautiful! I love anything Marimekko!
Awesome idea! For those of us not proficient at sewing zippers–could you use fabric adhesive?
That's brilliant!
Great idea!It's so cute!
