We lived in Brussels for a couple of months about two years ago. I fell in love with all the antique Louis Philippe mirrors that I saw at all the flea markets in Belgium and France. I didn’t buy any because I was worried about the cost of shipping such a big heavy piece. If I could do it again though, I’d just get a half or a whole freight container and go crazy at all the fleas (are you listening to me Gabby and Jordan!?)

What I love best about these mirrors is how they maximize mirror surface area with out being a boring square shape. They are really big and help to brighten a room, but still lend some softness to a space with their rounded edges. Some of my favorite rooms featuring Louis Phillipe mirrors:

For those of us without thousands of extra dollars to spend on a gorgeous antique mirror at ABC or on 1st Dibs, IKEA sells a great full-length version for $99. Love it.

Or if you’re in the market for a shorter wall mirror, this one’s on eBay for $145. Wouldn’t it be great gold or silver leafed or painted out in a fun color?

  1. Love the mirrors! The orange couch caught my eye! I have had an orange couch for 3 years and I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it! Glad to see I'm not the only person with an wild orange couch!

  2. I just learned a little somethin. Never actually knew the name! And what's with all these lucky bloggers going to France? Did I miss the memo? ;-)

  3. ohmygosh!!! we just booked a trip to belgium and france for the spring!!! I def want to go to Brugges, maybe Ghent…didn't know if Brussels was worth a few nights too. We're flying out of Paris a week later. Would LOVE if you are able to message me your thoughts on it! How fun to live internationally for awhile!!!

oh, and love those mirrors. I'm guessing I'll need a big bag for my trip?! :)

  4. I just got one for $75 off of Craigslist about 2 months ago and love it…it never ceases to amaze me what people sell on CL!!! Thanks for sharing these gorgeous images!!! And love your blog…the title is fabulous!

  5. I love these images so much. I think I might get that eBay one and gold leaf it. I think even that nasty wood base would make a nice background for the gold.

  6. Something must be abuzz in the universe, because Recently I've been searching for less expensive versions of these mirrors for a client's dining area. Strictly cl or ebay for this one.

  7. I've been dreaming of that last room (was that Lonny too? Do you mind if I link to the photo from my blog?) ever since you posted this! I happen to have an entire set of Louis Phillipe bedroom furniture that I purchased right before getting married- seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm itching to break it up! I'm hoping to gold leaf the mirror and hang it over my sofa this weekend!
