My dream house is my current house. An old farmhouse-style cottage with lots of vintage details but lots of fixing up needed. Project abound, and I couldn't be happier about it!
I want a two story colonial on a small patch of land 10 minutes from a city. Preferably built in the day and age of modern plumbing and electrical. I would love a "redo", but not with anything needing heavy demolition. I guess I just want to decorate.
I just linked to your site from Centsational Girl blog-which I love!!! I think I will also be keeping tabs on your blog now too, I love the furniture transformations – I'm totally addicted! My current home is my dream home, but it's also far from my dream home. It is the house that I grew up in, an old early 1900s farmhouse. We have some really great character and neat old woodwork along with steam-radiator heat (which is the best). However, we live in an old house that needs tons of repair work and maintenance. Well, we have to have something to keep us busy don't we? Thanks for your great site!

A stone home, small yet spacious at the same time. Hardwood floors, a large deck to spend summer nights on and plenty of room for children and grandbabies. I won't have this home for YEARS because we're military – but I have plenty of time to plan.:)
It's like you're reading my mind! I saw this book yesterday at Pottery Barn and sat in one of their comfy chairs reading it. My dream home is a historic home in the English countryside that retains all the old world charm but with modern conveniences.
My dream home would definitely be a brownstone in Manhattan. Dreaming….
A townhouse in the city that has a bit of a rambling farmhouse feel, with wide floor planks and lots of light.
I love this book, it is beautiful, motivating and inspiring. I am currently restoring my 1937 home outside Boston.
I have always dreamed of a beautiful Victorian or a city brownstone. I would think I'd died and gone to heaven if I lived in either one.
Unfortunately, I live in Los Angeles where Victorians are in short supply and brownstones are non-existent, so I'm busy trying to turn my 1950's pig's ear ranch house into the proverbial silk purse.

Oh yeah. I've spent a LOT of time on this one. Victorian farmhouse, U-shape. DR/formal space in front, open floor great room/kit behind that. Shed dormer above this with clerestory windows above for light. MB behind garage on one wing, bonus room above garage. 3 br on the other wing; two of them divided by a shared bathroom.
The back wall of the front part of the house slides open to a screened porch that also has access at each end to the MB and to the hall for the br's on the other side.
Behind the screened porch is the sunny section of the courtyard, which opens onto a pool deck.
The front of the house has a full-width porch with some gingerbread and ferns, and very comfy furniture to snuggle up in with a book or a friend and a pitcher of iced tea.
The whole thing flows great, especially for a young family. Our church has small-group meetings, and the adults could be together while the children could play in the upstairs game room or go to the back yard, but the adults could easily monitor their comings and goings without the children having to go through the middle of the group.

Oh my goodness, this is book is MUCH need in our house. My fiance and I are in the middle of making over a rowhouse on Captiol Hill in D.C. in fact. Great bones, but funny spaces for two kids from the sprawling South! Eventually I think that's where our hearts lie, but for now this little place means the world to us!
Not knowing a ton about styles, I have to say my current dream home is the very one we just purchased — our first, a Sears style bungalow in Washington, DC. What I would love EVEN more about it would be restoring it to its original charm (but with modern conveniences, of course). Love the hardwood floors, heavy molding around doorways, cozy porch, spacious common living areas on the main floor that encourage family time….
My dream house is a farmhouse/ mountain cabin with lots of windows, beautiful hardwood floors, and a stone fireplace. It would be great if this farmhouse wasn't too far from downtown – so I could have a quick drive to work! Thanks for the fun give-a-way!

Hmm…I have so many ideas for a dream house, but really the house I'm in now is a dream for me. Its a 50's rancher with lots of big trees/wildlife around it, and the inside has hardwood floors and lots of color on the walls. If I had to pick something totally different though, I'd pick a straw bale house in the middle of the desert in New Mexico or Utah.

At this point in my life, my dream house is just one that I own. Any house as long as I own it. I'm so tired of renting and not being in control. I'm a control freak! :)
Spanish style with lots of arches and tile. An iron gate, perhaps leading to a courtyard, and a tiled roof, too.
I dream/love an old 19Th century house, stone fassade, tall ceilings and large windows, a glassed in verandah, stairs up to the front door, big kitchen with access to the garden, open floorplan living!
Nothing colonial or too country.

For me, something neoclassical, like Greek Revival. Formal on the outside, although my taste in furnishings runs more toward clean lines, modern furniture and Art Deco.
My dream home … Probably a new build with lots of porches and total classic stuff in it. Old newel posts and fireplaces, wide plank flooring with a super dark brown stain, all white cabinets with Carrara marble counters and awesome appliances! ;0). Yeah, total dream!!
After living in a few old houses, with all of their, ahem, quirks, I would have to say I want a NEW house that's made with all of the details of one from the 1880's.

My dream house is a light-drenched, mid-century bungalow with plenty of art-friendly wall space in "Stars Hollow" about 1/2 way between Lorelai's house and Luke's diner. Except I'd want Stars Hollow to be on the ocean so I could walk the beach in the winter and spend nights gazing up, feeling swallowed by the stars.
A completely restored white 1920's classic colonial with original paned windows, a large flat front yard w/mature trees and loads of Hydrangea bushes and every kind of hosta imaginable!
(Any future give-aways for this kind of house would be greatly appreciated!!! :O)

We're renovating a 1930s colonial revival, which is pretty close to my dream house!
I want to live in the country in a home with lots of great details and modern furnishings.
We're on our first 80 year old tiny cottage, painstakingly undoing what was done in the 70's by the second owner. The horror! As we are diyers, there will be plenty of fixers in our future. Love your site. Keep up the great work!
my dream home is to start fresh, using classic details and design. i love restored wood for wood floors. i love arched doorways. i love built-in cabinets. i love thick pillars. the homes in down-town atlanta (where i'm from) are a perfect example… they reside on quaint streets with big trees and lots of flowers. oh to dream a dream… one day.
but this book would be a great start!
