Hi friends,

How was your weekend? I’m starting to feel better and was able to get some progress done on my dining room.

I was talking to one of my girlfriends on the phone yesterday while I was painting my china hutch. I was telling (well, complaining to) her about how hard it is for me to sleep at night lately, no matter how tired I am. I shared that I’m a little stressed out about how fast this pregnancy is going by. I’m in the third trimester already, I don’t feel prepared for her arrival and we definitely have not decided on a name yet. And to be honest, since this is our third daughter, I’m a little tapped out on girls names.

I saw this post on Sugar City Journal, and I was inspired to ask my stylish readers for their input. What are your favorite girls names? To give you a sense of our style, our favorites right now are

Evelyn
Annelise (or maybe just Elise?)
Vivian
Margot
Lillian

ALSO: does anyone know where I can get this exact bookcase? It needs to be wall-mounted.

  1. I am a newbie to your blog….love your style…

Congrats and hope you're having a good pregnancy…

My Mum is Lillian, twins run in our family so I always had the names Lillian and Jillian in mind…

My brother named his girl Charlotte and they call her Charly for short…

I named mine Jacquleen Marie/Jacqui for short.

    I adore Margot, Lily & Addison…good luck !!

    All the best,
    Kathy :)

  2. I've been reading your blog for a little while now and didn't even know you were pregnant. I guess with this being the third time around, you are a pro at it! I just wanted to share a few of my favorite girl names on the some-day-if-I-have-kids-list :)

    Layla
Marelle (which is a combination of my name and my sisters (Mary & Michelle)
    Emma Jayne

Good luck picking out a name!

  3. Leigh
    Claudia
    Mae
    Abigail
    Anna
    Agnus (too much?)
    Rachel

P.S. I love your blog! I am so inspired by it. I am trying to figure out how to upholster a headboard using your ottoman and headboard posts as guidance.

    -Sarah G.

  4. That image is from the Martha Stewart site and has instructions for contruction of the bookcase.

  5. Our favorite girl names are Abigail Elizabeth (Abbey), Niamh Amelia (pronounced like it rhymes with leave–an old Irish name), and Elliot. We haven't figured out a middle name for Elliot yet.

Land of Nod (the Crate & Barrel kids line) also has wall mounted book racks. I like the look of them better than the PB Kids, but they are significantly smaller.

  6. Evelyn and Vivian were two names on our list for our daughter. I think they sound so old fashioned and lovely. We ended up using Catherine Jane, but I think these two are great choices.

  7. We had a hard time naming our third girl as well. Our names are Isabel, Lucy and Nelle (rhymes with Belle). Good luck!

  8. i like lillian. also, i knew an anneli (pronounced like 'anna-leigh'). i think it's very pretty. and similar to annelise. i think annabel is pretty, too.

i've heard others recommend introducing yourself as the name you're considering, to see how people respond and to decide if you really like it.

i know others have mentioned it, but the baby name wizard site is fun. http://www.babynamewizard.com/

  9. I love the names Annelise and Margot. My favorites are Lila (my daughter's name) and Karina (her middle name). I also love Ryan, Amelia, Greta, and Helene.

  10. I love the name Margot. I also loe Marlo. One of my coworkers has the prettiest name, Olivianna. Charlotte is another. Then u can call her Lotte or Lottie for short.

  11. My daughters are named Lida Gertrude and Evana Jane. We used our grandmother's names. this will make it hard for our next one since we have started a trend, but I love their names and no one else has them! so fun, good luck!

  12. My Mom's name is Evelyne (with an e on the end), so I considered naming my first girl Eva Lyne. But I am in love with Elsa too. good luck!

  13. Remember Veronica Kisby? They had those book cases! They were home made, but looked sooo nice. She got the idea from Pottery Barn. I love the names you have. Josh just got an email from Michael, I was excited to see his name (as I peeked over Josh's shoulder:). If I were lucky enough to have one my girl I would name her one of these:

    Scarlet
    Lula
    Maeve
    Selma or my personal fave'
Marie-Terese and call her Mimi (funny huh?)

  14. When I saw Elise I thought it fit for your family…
Ummm. We have our new Mikah baby home (I wanted to spell it Meike- but I let Nate have it on this one…he HATES Meike and I don't hate the spellng Mikah) at any rate…I've been calling her "Mike" for short, I did not intend to, but it just comes out. I wonder if it makes Nate think of Michael J…when I call her that!

  15. Just found your blog and I am loving it! Congrats on your pregnancy and growing family. We have two daughters and are in the process of adopting our third child. Like you, we are fans of classic names. Our daughters' names are Amelia Grace and Elizabeth Noelle, whom we call Ellie. We are not sure if our third will be a boy or girl, but right now I am liking Charlotte Emory. Good luck!

  16. From your list, I would go with Elise….love that name.
In fact, we are 30 weeks pregnant with our first daughter and have settled on Eden Elise.

  17. I love your names, they're less common and so cute.
My favorite suggestion in naming a baby is to go to the census' popular baby name search http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ and look through the less-popular names (I hate when everyone has the same name) or go to a certain year and find the names that were popular then (like 1953). Wouldn't it be cute to have a vintage baby name?

  18. Oh, a little girl! How fun to choose a name! When I was pregnant I had a long list of girls' names I loved and just a few boys' name. Alas, we had a boy. So now I have this lovely list with no one to use it…at least until we have a baby girl of our own. Some of my favorite names are:

    Iris
    Ruby
    Lillian (LOVE this)
    Margaret
    Grace
    Jane
    Anne
    Elizabeth

You can't go wrong with classic names.
And yes, I believe PB Kids has this bookshelf or something nearly the same.

    Good luck!

  19. Jenny, since so many have recommended the Baby Wizard to you, and I love it as well, here are some of the sister names to the names you suggested. (One thing I love about the book is that it provides suggestions of fitting names for sisters and brothers.) Maybe you have the book, since some of your names are related in this book, but if not, here you go!

Evelyn: Marian, Vivian, Rose ,Josephine, Lillian
Annalise: Lisbeth, Julianne, Arabella, Mariel, Renata
    Vivian: Marian, Eleanor, Clarice, Violet
Margot: Marianne, Gwen, Janis, Nan, Aurea
Lillian: Clara, Josephine, Eva, Violet, Eleanor

I like Evelyn (Evie for short) or Vivian (Viv), as well as Renata, Gwen, Eva and Violet. A name is a big deal–mine is Barbara but I've always gone by Barbie, which I actually dislike, but what am I to do… Good luck. I love visiting your blog every day.

  20. I know how hard it is to pick names. For our five month old I wanted something elegant but that would stand out. We almost named her Elise or Analise, but we chose a french family name Elodie. It suits her perfectly. Good luck! It will come to you!

  21. Abigail is my favorite girl's name of all time. Could not use it with our last name. I also love Adeline and Hope.
Your names are all beautiful. I like Lillian the best (Lily for short).
Best wishes to you. Love your blog.

  22. I love your blog and I love the name Vivian but my favorite way to spell it is Vivienne.
Angelina Jolie stole it from me, I just know it. ;)

  23. Evelyn, Lillian & Vivian are also on my list for a potential girl baby. So are…

    Penelope
    Phoebe
    Lorelei
    Sylvia
    Julian
    Anabelle
    Sabrina
    Daphne
    Adelle

  24. Love your blog… have recently started following it. I have a little girl that just turned one – we named her Matilda but she often goes by Tilly (TillyWilly, TillyBelle, Tillerina… and what other names her brother comes up with for her!)

  25. My little sister is Elise, so I am cery partial to that one. I also was going to suggest Mathilda and call her Tilly. One of my very good friends is also on her 3rd girl (with one boy in between) and that is the name she's using.

  26. Funny- I can only ever come up with girl names – luckily that's all I've needed so far – Elise and Claire have always topped my list (although we ended up with Virginia and Eleanor) but my new favorite is Beatrice – so classic and beautiful!!! Olive is nice too, Georgia . . .

  27. Our oldest daughter is Annaliese with the A pronounced as a soft "o" so that is one of my favorite names. Our other daughter is Eleanora. I love both their names and the meanings.
Also, that bookcase looks like it would be pretty easy to make with a few boards and dowels if you can't locate one!
    Blessings,
    Hannah

  28. I'm a new reader – came late to the party :), but really enjoying your blog – thank you!!

    1. I like Madelyn
    2. On a totally different note – remember the lovely Penguin Classics illustrated by Coralie Bickford-Smith? Who could forget?!? Anyway – they were due to be released today but I can find neither hide nor hair of them online (Watersone's exclusive)…any clues?? I read that you were planning to add the 10 new ones to your collection!

    p.s. that red credenza….GENIUS!

  29. I just love baby names… we are pretty far from having kids but I do already have names picked out. :)

    My baby girl names are:

    – Mona
    – Estella (I love Great Expectations)
    – Emme
    – Sloane (Yup, Erika's new daughter's name! But I've loved this name ever since seeing it on Entourage)
-Blake (my brothers name, but love it for a girl).

I love Vivian from your list!

I think you should name your daughter Bryn (or Brynn) :)

  30. I vote for Evelyn and you can call her Eve! I teach prechool and have not seen this name. We have seen a lot of Lilly's at our school lately.

  31. I love your blog and your style!

That shelf looks like it would be very easy to recreate.

I love girl's names. Vivian is lovely. Some other ideas would be Mirielle, Camille, or Marcella.

  32. Love your blog!!! Hmm names are tough. I am pregnant too and have three girl names I love. I am having trouble with BOY names..ugh.
Evelyn is great. It was my grandmother's name. Evie for short sounds so cute. Good Luck.
    Isn't the nesting instinct insane?

  33. I love Margot (!!!) and Annelise. I have a good friend named Anneli and I love that too. I'm pretty obsessed with turn of the century names right now:
    Geneva (my daughter's name)
    Cora
    Adelle

Good luck deciding and congrats again on your newest blessing. :)

  34. Elise is one of my daughters middle names, and very pretty I think. Don't know your other daughters' names, but how about Libby (Elizabeth), Nora, Mae, Lainey (Elaine). Oh… there are so many good ones already mentioned. Good luck.

  35. My grandmother's name is Evelyn so I love that choice. You could call her Evie for short. I have always wanted to name my daughter Evelyn June so that's a good option for you! Good luck!
