Hi friends,

How was your weekend? I’m starting to feel better and was able to get some progress done on my dining room.

I was talking to one of my girlfriends on the phone yesterday while I was painting my china hutch. I was telling (well, complaining to) her about how hard it is for me to sleep at night lately, no matter how tired I am. I shared that I’m a little stressed out about how fast this pregnancy is going by. I’m in the third trimester already, I don’t feel prepared for her arrival and we definitely have not decided on a name yet. And to be honest, since this is our third daughter, I’m a little tapped out on girls names.

I saw this post on Sugar City Journal, and I was inspired to ask my stylish readers for their input. What are your favorite girls names? To give you a sense of our style, our favorites right now are

Evelyn
Annelise (or maybe just Elise?)
Vivian
Margot
Lillian

ALSO: does anyone know where I can get this exact bookcase? It needs to be wall-mounted.

  1. Hi Jenny,

Love your blog! I have a similar problem with girl names, but Evelyn is the ONLY girl name that has made the list so far for next baby.

    Good luck choosing!

  2. I'm in week 34 now, and we're having the same struggle. Our first daughter's name is Indie Othilie, so we wanted a name that goes with that.

Our list at this stage is:
    Billie Josephine
    Saga
    Freja
    Wilma

Neither are very common, but my name isn't either, and I've grown to really love it. I also like Willa, but it means house in Norwegian, so it would be pretty strange to call her that.

I like Annelise on your list. It's actually a pretty common Norwegian name, and it's very beautiful.

Good luck, and I hope your pregnancy is going well!

  3. i love your blog! anyway, since i have this thing with gemstone names, i'd go with ruby, jade, sapphire, opal, coral, pearl? but i also like vivienne or lulu :) good luck with your pregnancy!

  4. MS has a great DIY post. Love all your names – Margot is my fave. Good luck w/your decision!

    Fran

  5. Love the names in your line-up, especially Lillian or Vivian! We have a boy and hope to try for a girl soon because I'm dying to have one, we already have chosen her name too…Ruth Eden! Congrats on your pregnancy and I hear you on the fatigue…try and squeeze some naps in! Your almost there!

  6. Any of the names you're looking at would be beautiful but since you asked, I like Margot, Lillian and Elise (I had Elissa on the short list for my twins), and I dreamed one baby was named Ruby (which I love) but once they were born and I saw their little faces, I just knew they were simply Sara and Grace.

Good luck choosing a name. No pressure there, huh?

    Enjoy your last trimester!
    Andrea

  7. If I had a third girl I'd go with Charlotte (Charlie for short) or Nina. I'd love to design your birth announcements when the little pumpkin arrives!!

  8. I love baby names. :)

I have a Bella Josephine + Clara Elizabeth (Clara Beth is what we call her most of the time).

In hindsight, I wish I had gone with Belle, instead of Bella, because I was unaware of the twilight hype + how common the nickname was for Isabella.

I love Evelyn from your list. LOVE. I have a very close friend who has an Emalyn, which is sweet and not heard of very often.

I love Adelaide, Ruby, Ruth, Isla, Eleanor, Willa + Alice. I could probably go on + on. :) Have you ever heard of a website called Nymbler.com? You can plug in your favorite names + they give you suggestions back. I love it. Also the Baby Name Wizard is one of my favorite naming books ever. :)

Good luck naming! I just recently found your blog + really enjoy it.

  9. Congratulations on your pregnancy. And thank you for sharing your amazingly creative ideas. What do you think of Esther?

  10. Well, I second someone's post about the name "billie," since it's my name :-). But I do get pegged for a boy a lot (my full name is actually Billie Jo). But it's nice having a name that not too many people have. I l ove Annelise. A friend of mine named their daughter, Vienne. And another thought…have you considered Jillson? Could call her Jillsie for short.

    Good luck!

  11. Hi Jenny

I am 36 weeks pregnant and it is a difficult thing the name game. We love Charlotte (Lottie) for short and Arabella…..

  12. Hi ~ I have twin girls named Olivia and Mia. I have always wanted to have more girls bc I have so many girls names that I love: Brooke, Mallory & Ava are some of my other faves. Congratulations!!

  13. We had Lillian, Vivian and Evelyn (Evie) on our girl name list for our third. All of them were family names, and we chose Lillian Parrish, but we ended up having a boy so it was all for moot! Love the names though.

  14. I just read the other blog. How could I forget Eloise?? It's one of my all time favorites. It would be my third daughters name if we ever had another. I love, love, love it.

  15. Hi there, I LOVE your blog & thanks so much for sharing all of your awesome ideas! Congrats on your pregnancy too! I love Evelyn, Vivian, Annelise (although it may get mispelled often – just something to consider?) but Margot is probably my favorite so that would be my top pick. Good luck!

  16. From your list of names, I love Evelyn! Ruby and Annabelle are two of my favorites. Girls names are so hard we struggled to name our sweet Marley!

Bookshelve, have you thought about making one. I had my husband make something similar a few weeks ago and it was so quick and easy. You can find a pic on my blog.

    Good luck with both.

  17. Congratulations on your pregnancy. For my first pregnancy I had a long list of girls names but had a boy. The only name that survived on my list when I had a daughter 2 years later was Eva. So Eva she is!. After reading other replies, I have to say that I like Margot.
My name is Zoe which I love. It means life.
    ZoeB

  18. My girl names are Vera and Estelle. However, I seem to be on a boy-streak. If I have another boy I'm going to be tapped out on names too.

  19. I had to name twin girls two years ago and it almost killed me! LOL

"The Baby Name Wizard" by Laura Wattenberg. It totally changed my life, and was my go-to for my super-sized naming equation. Wattenberg also has a website that follows along the same lines as the book: http://www.nymbler.com Type in your daughters names, girls only, and you can see pages and pages of names that go "stylistically" with your taste in names. Click on the name and you can see lots of info on it.

Some of the very same names you love were on our list, too. Elise is my favorite and I used it as middle name with one of my daughters. Good luck to you.

Never posted anything before, but LOVE your blog. Thanks to The Washington Post. xoxo

  20. Oh, I Looove all your name choices! So weird that they were all on my list for our last daughter (except for Margot- beautiful name but I knew a Margot once…)my prego sis-in-law is planning on using Evelyn- I love that name but didn't realize it was becoming so popular. I adore the name Annelise- it's my grandmother's 98-year-old sister's name.

  21. I've seen similar book shelves on Craigslist, perhaps someone would be interested in shipping it to you? I love the name, Margot.

  22. i love Evelyn and Annelise. Great ideas! My girlfriend just named her daughter Loretta Faye which I also LOVE!I say bring the old timey names back.

  23. Margot is one of my favorite girl names. Have you seen the "Name Voyager"? (link) It's an app that shows you the general popularity of names. Anything Lil-related is skyrocketing in popularity, much like the name "Jennifer" for my generation. Good luck choosing!

  24. I love your blog. I also love girls names. After having 4 girls and spending hours upon hours searching for names I've come up with a long list that my hubby doesn't like, but what can you do.
    Scarlett
    Ginger
    Hazel
Penelope and call her poppy.(We both loved this, but our last name is Porter and when you say it with the last name first is sounds like "port-a-potty".
    Frankie
    Mazie
    Macey
    Josie
We named our last baby girl Mirabella Minnie and call her Mira or sometimes Bella or MiMi. It has been a really fun name.
Anyway, I could go on for hours. Girls are so much fun! Good luck finding something that you love!!

  25. Love your list of names. Our daughter is Evelyn Belle and we call her Evie (rhymes with levee) Belle. Both are family names we choose one from each side.

  26. Hi! I'm a new blog stalker and have LOVED all of your posts so far!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful designs!!

I've seen a similar bookshelf (but smaller) from New Arrivals, Inc. Many blessings on your last trimester! It does fly by…All of your names are beautiful. You won't go wrong with any of them.

  27. I LOVE your blog. Thank you for being so willing to share your talents with the rest of us! You have inspired me greatly.
I found your blog off of Katy McGee's (we went to HS together) and I've kept up with it since!
Anway, we named our daughter Evelyn Sophia and it couldn't be more perfect. That's my vote! I love that it's feminine and classic.

  28. I love Penelope, but call her Poppy!

I like names that end with 'ly' or 'leigh'.

    Blakely
    Brynnly
    Breely

Another Idea to get those skinny bookselves is to take gutters(that go on your house), they have may different styles, and place them on the wall. They have the end caps you can up on the egdes so your babies will not hurt themselves. Good luck(with both decision)!

  29. Within the past several months, the number of people I know who have named their girls Lillian/Lily is practically in the double digits. With that said, I would probably choose something else. I totally feel for you on how hard it is to pick a name! It was really hard for us too!

  30. Love the name Vivian! Other favorites are Helen, Stella, Faye, Clare, Eleanor, Eloise, Jane, Laura, and the list could go on.

    Julia

  31. I love those names. My favorite is Elinor (the spelling from Sense and Sensibility), and I plan to use it IF we ever have a girl! I really like the nickname Ellie.

  32. I am looking for a wall-mounted bookcase like that too. My friends who have similar ones all say theirs are hand-me-downs.

My girls' names are Sophie and Sarah. I also like Olivia, Claire, and a friend's daughters are named Hannah and Emme, which I also like.

Love your blog. Have fun choosing a name and congrats!

  33. Hi- I have 3 girls too!! Lots of drama…. My middle child is named Carter. Very unusual for a girl and different. Good Luck

  34. I like Margot, but I also like,
    Corinne
    Yvette
    Maura

I recently had a girl and named her Corinne. This is the traditional French spelling. But there are many variations.
