Easy Bungalow 5 Knock-Off

I’ve been working on a beautiful, large house in the Boston area for a while now. The project is almost at completion and I am absolutely chomping at the bit to share the after photos with you all! I would happily move into this home in a heartbeat! Here’s a teensy preview. In the older…

I’ve been working on a beautiful, large house in the Boston area for a while now. The project is almost at completion and I am absolutely chomping at the bit to share the after photos with you all! I would happily move into this home in a heartbeat!

Here’s a teensy preview. In the older daughter’s room, we almost ordered the Bungalow 5 Jacqui side table. It retails for $720, which was more than we wanted to spend here.

So my client picked up one of these little nightstands at Home Goods, gave it a paint job, and added new pulls, and

Voila! Adorable! Pretty darn close to the inspiration piece and we were able to save $500 for other purchases in the room, including some custom-made curtains in the most perfect shade of coral pink…

Sharpie Wallpaper

I’ve been contemplating wallpaper patterns for my girls’ room. The cost of the paper alone (I would hang it myself) is making me think outside the box a little and reminded me of this project featured on HGTV done by the Rethink Design Studio (found via Full House). All you need is a stencil and…

All you need is a stencil and a sharpie. I love that they went with gold! Genius!

I think one of these Whitewall & Co. stencils would really do the trick, but what I’m really itching to try is a recreation of this beautiful wallpaper in Lisa Fine’s Paris apartment.

I think I could maybe pull off something like this free hand with black, gold and green (maybe navy?) sharpies? It would be a fun project and the best part is that if I mess up – I just use a little wall paint to touch things up.

I love this pattern. And how amazing does it look as wallpaper, headboard AND a bedskirt?! And that giant mirror? Just right.

Elle Decor

Isn’t great decorating all about nailing the little details? Wouldn’t you be thrilled to get ready everyday in a bathroom with this set up??

The Swedish roots in my would love a mora clock, or just a beautiful antique clock like this one. Also, I’m a major sucker for black interior doors.

Debating between an orange tree and a fiddle leaf fig. Restoration Hardware outlet was having an AMAZING sale on their giant galvanized planters last weekend, I might swing by again this weekend to see if there are any left.

Domino

Black and white stripes are just perfection in my book.

These colors! and that wallpaper…

Isn’t this chair fabric lovely? It sort of reminds me of a slate blue and navy dot print linen that I’m using to upholster an arm chair in.

Domino

Oh how I want these chairs to sit at the ends of my farmhouse table!

Lee Industries

I always come back to this bedroom. It sums up the direction I want to go with our place. Lived in, comfortable, colorful but in a restrained way, and undecorated.

Peter Dunham

Another image that hits it right on the head. Yellow. Doors.

I hope you all have exciting adventures planned for this weekend! Evie and I are hitting the road tomorrow and heading to Philadelphia for a buying trip. Fingers crossed that I come back with some great vintage furniture and yards and yards of beautiful fabrics for me and my clients.

I’m behind today. But tomorrow’s inspiration post is about large artwork. There are quite a few amazing over-sized art pieces in this stunning apartment designed by one of my all-times, Timothy Whealon. And speaking of Veranda…Dara Caponigro, of Domino fame, has taken the helm at Veranda now. Are you as excited as I am by this? I love her new direction with the publication. {PS this was a fun interview with Dara from the lovely people at Shelterpop}

We’re in the market for a new (matching) pair of arm chairs for the living room. These are a gazillion dollars from Hickory Chair, but I love them so.

We’ve had basically non-stop visitors since we moved to New York. And we’re pretty much booked through Christmas. All the house guests have turned my focus to linen closets and I have dreams about mine someday looking like this:

via Lonny

I am using a chest of drawers as my kitchen island and since there is a 360-degree view of the piece now, it desperately needs a new paint job. The top candidate for colors is Farrow and Ball’s ‘Down Pipe’

What could possibly be better than an antique empire chandelier? Two of them.

Completely enamored by the colors and pattern in this antique textile from an old Style Court post. I’m going to try some experimenting with fabric dye and white silk for a pillow or two.

Not new news, but I love skirted tables. This round, trimmed out table by Celerie Kemble is really doing it for me. I’ll take that lamp too, please and thank you.

But, the exciting thing to report is that now that our walls are (basically) done, I’ve been brainstorming fun projects and purchases for our place! I thought this week it would be fun to share some of the images saved in my ‘NYC APT’ folder.

Could kill for these curtains…

A wall of bookshelves in an interesting color and with a ladder!

This screen makes me want to experiment with striped fabric and wallpaper on the diagonal…

Inspiration for our pantry. I just painted my shelving out in glossy navy with yellow trim and I placed a big order for my favorite Weck jars.

I love this great linen available through Ballard for $24/yd.

If this post didn’t convince you to buy some great antiques and reupholster them with fabulous fabric, maybe seeing this amazing sofa will. I’m so in love with that fabric!

I’ve always loved this image. That framed needlework haunts my dreams! One of my clients just found a beautiful antique piece of embroidery on a midnight blue background and we’re considering framing it for her apartment. And truthfully, I’m jealous she found the piece first! I’d love something like it for my own dining room…

Gorgeous Nursery Glider

Did you see Jordan’s post yesterday about her gorgeous glider? We originally had it in her bedroom, but doesn’t it look great in her living room? It’s the Jennifer Delonge Luxe Glider in navy linen, and it’s a splurge, but it’s oh so beautiful. And I really really want one. Do you have a glider…

It’s the Jennifer Delonge Luxe Glider in navy linen, and it’s a splurge, but it’s oh so beautiful. And I really really want one.

Do you have a glider that you love? Where did you get it? Do you feel like it was worth the cost? Jordan’s glider doesn’t look juvenile at all, so I feel like it was a good purchase since she’s able to now use it in her living space. But what about something like this one from Pottery Barn Kids that’s the same price as Jordan’s Luxe glider? A waste of money (and floor space?) after a year or two?

I think they just don’t make furniture like they used to – so why not find a gorgeous (and inexpensive!) antique or vintage piece and then make it totally your own with paint or upholstery?

Considering the Sputnik

Friends, I’m so happy to report that our loft has WALLS!! Hallelujah. There’s still some finishing that will take place over the next day or two, but I couldn’t be happier to finally have closets to hang up our clothes and put away the second half of our boxes. And then!! Let the decorating begin!…

Friends, I’m so happy to report that our loft has WALLS!! Hallelujah. There’s still some finishing that will take place over the next day or two, but I couldn’t be happier to finally have closets to hang up our clothes and put away the second half of our boxes. And then!! Let the decorating begin!

I’m thinking of a pair of sputnik or sputnik-esque chandeliers over the farmhouse table in the dining area. Something like this vintage beauty would be the ideal. But at $4800, this one’s definitely not in the budget.

I think this one is cool, from Shades of Light ($350)

And this one from Z Gallerie is similar, for $250

I love the size (36″!!) of this sputnik from Room Service Home ($550).

Faux bamboo meets sputnik in Jonathan Adler’s Meurice chandelier ($750).

I’m loving the smoke version of the Lotus Flower Chandelier – It has a sort of feminine sputnik vibe.

The IKEA Maskros is a great size for the price tag ($89). It might be worth a try… Maybe as a place holder until I can afford the real deal sputnik?

Have you come across any great chandeliers lately?
