Did you see Jordan’s post yesterday about her gorgeous glider? We originally had it in her bedroom, but doesn’t it look great in her living room?
It’s the Jennifer Delonge Luxe Glider in navy linen, and it’s a splurge, but it’s oh so beautiful. And I really really want one.
Do you have a glider that you love? Where did you get it? Do you feel like it was worth the cost? Jordan’s glider doesn’t look juvenile at all, so I feel like it was a good purchase since she’s able to now use it in her living space. But what about something like this one from Pottery Barn Kids that’s the same price as Jordan’s Luxe glider? A waste of money (and floor space?) after a year or two?

I never would have guessed it was a glider.
Nice clean lines! Wish it was a little bit cheaper, but very nice!
What a beautiful glider…I have buyers remorse on the glider I bought 5 years ago in white linen (what was I thinking???) I think having a piece that is versatile is a great idea…I am sure she loves it. –Gretchen O.
Nice glider! I never would have guessed it was a glider either!
I've always been against gliders, but this one might change my mind!
where does one find such a tv console? I went to the orginal post about her living room but it was one of the only things not mentioned with a source. It's amazing. I need one.
This is the glider I splurged on for my nursery (on the top left)

I have it in a gorgeous cream matelasse. I think it is the biggest splurge in the house! I have fallen asleep in it before. The wing back gives lots of support when I want to get comfy while nursing baby. I have also moved it into my living room. So, yes seven years later it is still worth it.
Our glider was worth every penny and I wouldn't mind it in our living room… We bought the brown glider with brown piping and charcoal gray pillow. And later splurged on the matching ottoman – which made it more comfortable on my back while I was breastfeeding the baby for 15 months…

Personally, I think purchasing a glider that doesn't scream "temporary" and "baby" is very wise. I like that the glider in this post is now being used as everyday furniture—that just makes sense.
My favorite, favorite, favorite glider is here:

I love the color options, contrast piping, and the fact that it comes in white leather—nice to quickly wipe up baby-related spills without adding to the laundry or a cleaning bill. :)
Great post!
Hmm. We bought the Larkin glider from Pottery Barn, and now I sort of regret it. We use it every day, and it's great for reading stories and bedtime, but this post has given me the idea to maybe slipcover it. (To look more like the one pictured.) I would feel weird if we tried to move it into the living room now, but maybe slipcovered it could work.
Love the TV console!! I must know where this came from!
I am going to pick up this glider today, & I can't wait:

My daugher is 11 months but I've been thinking about it since she was born so I finally forked over the dough and got it. I think it will work well in her bedroom, my bedroom, or the living area for many years to come. I have a modern style so I love the straight and squared lines, but still comfy and cozy like a glider/rocker should be. I also have the white eames rocker, which I love but isn't as cozy.
I have the Best Nava glider and ottoman in Latte from JCPenney (thanks Mom). I love that it's smaller but still comfortable. It's almost 3 years old and is rocking baby number 2 who is 7 weeks old. We're really pleased with it for the price (less than $600 for both pieces) but I would LOVE to own the featured piece. She not only gets to use it as a "regular" piece of furniture, but it's classic styling may even allow it to be used to rock her grandbabies some day!
That's my glider! Well …. so, I haven't ordered it yet, but I'm planning on it. :)
I adore it. I'm skimping on the rest of the nursery just so I can get my hands on it!
I totally agree that the beauty of the Jennifer DeLonge is that you can easily use it in another room later, especially if in a neutral color.
Ella, we have the same glider from Lee Industries! And I have to agree…I am loving it! It is currently rocking baby #3, and has had LOTS of use the past two years (we have three now – the oldest is two). I am going to get it slipcovered at some point though.
Mitchell Family, I bought mine with a slipcover. I have thought about making a new one so I can switch up the decor. Baby number 3 is on the way. But wouldn't you agree that a wingback is essential to get comfy during those late night feeding? I couldn't live without it! I want to get the ottoman for the next baby though…
I actually posted something very similar recently…my predicament to "waste money" on a glider or buy something more longstanding. We opted for the womb chair!
Great post!
We bought a glider and ottoman like this when my oldest son was born:
http://merrygoround.bnocheckout.com/store/shop_product.php?UPC=400000000440
We had it upholstered in a red vintage cowboy themed fabric. Now we have two sons (6 and 4) and it is in the room they share (the room has a denim and red print theme, not a cowboy theme). We still sit in it with the boys all the time to read or snuggle, even though they are getting BIG, and it looks great. Someday I picture putting it in the living room of our cabin … if we ever are lucky enough to buy one! So – our glider was a GREAT purchase, even though it cost more than any other kid-related furniture we've ever bought.
Jennifer Delonge is awesome, she's one of my favorites! I never think it's a splurge when it's classic and going to last the test of time, well at least that's what I try to convince my husband!!
it looks beautiful. I'm usually so anti-glider but this one isn't too bulky. I never bought one for my daughter's room because I couldn't find one that I could bear to live with later… and I to be honest, I never missed it!
I have the PB Dream rocker, not the glider (they look the same and have the same enormous footprint.) I bought it well before I started reading design blogs and thinking about things like how well a piece would work in a space. Its a very comfy rocker, and we are still using it five years later.
My one complaint is that it is enormous. We have to take the rockers off the bottom in order to move it from room to room, and it just takes up a ton of space in whatever room its in. If I had it to do over I'd probably look for a chair with a smaller footprint. But since I am stuck with it I will say that its quite comfortable and I can get two kids in my lap when we sit in it.
Actually I have a second complaint, the slipcover is dry clean only. For that reason, my slipcover is filthy, because i refuse to pay $90 my drycleaner wants for drycleaning it.
Gorgeous glider!! We have the PB Dream Glider. I'm so glad that we went with the glider instead of the rocker! It was probably one of the best purchases that we made when we were shopping for our daughter's room. We spent countless hours in that super comfy chair! I couldn't stand the look of most gliders and I really wanted a piece of furniture that we could later use in other rooms of the house. I don't think it's huge…I think that if we had the rocker vs. the glider, I might think differently. We have the white matelasse slipcover for our Dream Glider. The slipcover ended up looking terrible in no time flat. I took the slipcover to be dry cleaned and it looked just as bad if not worse after it was dry cleaned. Ugh. I assumed that the slipcover was ruined so I threw caution to the wind and I scrubbed the stains with a strong Oxiclean solution and then soaked the cover. I then washed the cover in cold on gentle cycle and air dryed the cover. When it was still a bit damp, I put it back onto the chair. I have done this several times and my slipcover is gorgeous and white and it's in my living room right now! I love this chair and I love that it's white! LOVE!
I never knew there were gliders this chic! Love it. I would definitely consider one of these, because they're so much more versatile than the usual kind. I could def. see this moved into a living room after it's done in the nursery!
pretty chair and a double bonus that its a glider too!
I have the dream rocker in white and i really like it..i wash it and DRY it at home and it is fine..it is big but it looks good with my other white slipcovers i think..i had to glide, makes me sick so i wanted a rocker.
My (regular old) glider won't win any design awards, but it has certainly done its job well and been a great place for nursing and reading stories to 2 kids. The rest of the room is cute, and I don't think the basic glider is sticking out like a sore thumb (I hope).
I don't own the PB one, as it also would've been out of my price range, but I can see an argument for the idea that if you're going to use it over a number of years for a number of children…then you might not care about the fact that it won't later transition to your living room. You'd still get several years out of it, doing it's main job well.
I'm just throwing this all out there as a counterpoint to consider for parents who can't afford the nice stuff but are being swayed by all the haters poo-poo-ing gliders, cuz I'm pro glider. : )
i bought a rockabye rocker in brown corduroy and have loved it. it's not super sleek, but we've had it in the front room and nursery and i like it in either place. plus it's super comfy and doesn't show any milk barf and cleans well with a wet rag. in the future, to change things up and add some interest, i think i'll get rid of the rocking ottoman that came with it and do some funky one. not sure. but, yeah that rocker of jordan's is duh bomb.
Check out http://petittresor.com/baby-boutique/catalog.aspx?group=665. They have a bunch of great gliders with different price options. I just ordered the Penelope glider.
Ya'll are lifesavers! I am actually trying to find two rocker gliders for my living room, and I don't have children yet. These are so stylish!
Such an elegant and modern glider. I would have never known that it was one. I bought a glider (which resembles a PBK one) with an ottoman at a local kids store where I live for over 1000 bucks.. Hardly used it and now after 2 years have no home for it. I don't think I'd ever buy one again unless it was smaller and less money.
