I don’t have the greenest thumb, so I try to stick with house plants that are very forgiving. I’ve discovered the easiest plant to care for of all is a Xerographica, or an air plant. They need only a little water once or twice a month and THEY DON’T NEED TO BE PLANTED! You can pick them up out of their container and move them to another spot or vessel without any mess. They’re basically the perfect plant for styling, especially with their soft sagey curly stems! So pretty! I bought a couple for my mom’s house and we put one in
her kitchen and another in her
guest bath.
I like the ease of putting air plants in pretty little containers best, but there are some really cool ideas out there for displaying air plants in unique ways.
There are so many things to love about these plants – gorgeous, easy to care for, last forever, etc – but the icing on the cake is they are super cheap if you buy them at the right places! The teeny tiny ones cost almost nothing:
They grow fast, so don’t worry too much about paying for the bigger-sized plants at West Elm (which usually run $20-25 each), just grab a few of these inexpensive ones and bunch them together as they grow.
Have you ventured into the world of air plants yet? I’d love to see how you’re using them!
I love them too! Just added a big one to my bookcase @jmmccalley and stuck a few small ones in the holes of a large barnacle from our last vacation. Thanks for sharing the sources though, our greenhouses charge a lot more for them!
ooh yes. love them. have several shops that sell them here in my town, and i have 6 at the current moment. they are my new obsession.
I would like to try some of these, but what are their sunlight requirements?
I thought they were called tillandsia?

I had sixteen T. xerographica that were left over from my wedding – they were beautiful and cost-effective centerpieces. I really considered them … Often referred to as the "Queen" of the air plants, this spectacular Tillandsia Xerographica plant is the most stunning plant we have. Silvery light green in color, … It's easy to see why the Xerographica air plant is a favorite of ours, and among many tillandsia enthusiasts. News Boy 411
I love these! I've killed a bunch though. Keep em watered – I soak them in rainwater every week or two for 20 minutes. But the dead ones are also pretty :) I'm considering spray painting one of my dead ones.
I like the mini plants hanging… what kind of plant it is?

Wait, how do you water them if they're just hanging out in the air? (Sorry, I have NO green thumb)
My husband and I own Air Plant Design Studio (www.airplantdesignstudio.com) and my sister in law sent me this post. Love it! (and that kitchen is to die for). A couple notes: while air plants can indeed grown larger, they will need good indirect bright sunlight and weekly waterings to thrive. Water quality and type plays a big role, as does air quality. You can also fertilize them with a low-nitrogen fertilizer (such as an orchid or bromeliad fertilizer) 1x per month to encourage growth, pup production, and bloom cycle. Feel free to connect with us if you ever have questions about air plant care or certain types of air plants! :)
So nice and amazing design! Excellent color combination and decoration.
