My parents’ big remodel is in the home stretch! There are three bathrooms that need tile and that’s just about it. But three bathrooms worth of tile is a ton of tile! And we’re at that point in the project where my parents are sort of sick of spending money so every dollar spent needs to really count. We used some of the quartzite from their kitchen for the countertops in the bathrooms, so that helped us with the budget, but that limited our tile options too. As we learned picking a backsplash tile, quartzite is gorgeous but is hard to pair up with tile!
Cement tiles are so cool and I would love to get to use them here, but they’re not in the budget. I also really loved this teak wood tile, but again, it’s on the pricey side. What IS in the budget though is $3.99/sq ft hex tiles. We found a ton at local discount tile stores all around the Valley. Floor and Decor has some really pretty grays and neutrals which would look great with the quartzite. We’re just going to pop out and replace tiles of different colors in a repeating pattern on the mesh sheets. The gorgeous and talented Gwen from The Makerista did this in her bathroom and it turned out SO WELL. I think she actually had to place each tile by hand, which sounds really labor intensive, but look at the results! What a beautiful floor!
My parents live in a city called Snowflake, and we’ve talked about doing something like these snowflake patterns here, but we’re still thinking about it. Is that too literal? Part of me sort of loves the idea.
I’ve found a million different patterns on the #Ihavethisthingwithfloors instagram account and hashtag. I feel like this account was made just for me. I majorly have a thing for good floors (and I bet you do, too). Check these out:
I love that instagram account, I get ridiculously excited by pretty flooring!
Thanks for including me, Jenny! It was definitely the most time intensive project I've ever done, but the results (and cost) were so worth it! I plan to do something similar again. Looking forward to seeing what you go with, there are so many options.
These floors make me want to cry, in a peaceful, I'm-so-happy way.
Gwen: Your floor is gorgeous! xox
I love all of these! The hex tile is exactly what I've been wanting to do in my son's room, but in a very simple white/tan pattern. I just have to finish the entry tile, then the fireplace tile first…
check out the brand Stonepeak. They make a tile called Palazzo that is a dead ringer for cement tiles.
I found myself looking at your shoes as much as the tiled floors. Is that wrong? Talk about design ADD….
I have a ton of hex floor pictures pinned, because we live in a1906 Denver square it's totally period appropriate and I have been dying to experiment as I would love to have it in my kitchen and a back entryway.
I love an unglazed hex tile…so nostalgic. I recall, long ago, a gal in a magazine who had a white hex tile base on her bathroom floor. She tossed pennies in the air and placed black tiles (I think…might have been a color) where the pennies fell. While I am all about symmetry, there was something so organic with the randomness.
I can't wait to see what you choose to do. As always, I'm sure that it will be a delight.
almost hate to suggest it, because – wow do I love those hex tiles- but Fired Earth has some very reasonably priced ceramic tiles that resemble encaustic/ cement tiles.

Oh my…so many to choose from – just love the idea of the snowflake pattern. A subtle nod to their town…amazing images!
Endless options. Such a great post.
I think the snowflake idea is totally perfect.
I've been dreaming of cement tile floors for our downstairs bathroom, but don't want to invest in that until we're able to invest in the big renovation that bathroom needs. These gorg hex tile floors are inspiring and a little dangerous, because now I'm tempted to try it out myself! Those fringed sandals from one of the photos are pretty inspiring too…
Jenny I love hex tiles! In fact Patricia (Mrs. Blandings) is putting them in a bath right now!
Have a great weekend!
xoxo

I, too, have a thing with floors, especially hex tiles. The snowflake idea is ADORABLE and definitely not too literal. I say do it! Or any of the other patterns you showed.
Wow. Thank you for all the inspirations. I love all the floors!
such beautiful floors! and the 3D effect one (third pic from the bottom! ) *Jaw drop* soo cool!
I’m dying to see these pictures, but they aren’t loading. Any chance you can take a look on your end and see if they can be fixed? Thank you!
Do you know a good source for finding lots of color options in hex tiles? Want to do a cool pattern like some of the #ihavethisthingwithfloors designs.
