I’m in New York this week for a really cool project and event that I’m excited to share with you all. Before I left for the airport this weekend I got the itch to paint the fireplace, just to see what it would look like in black, so I rolled on a quick coat.
It will need a couple coats of paint with sanding sessions in between, but so far I’m loving it!
I also found a remnant slab of honed black granite at a local stone yard that I think will be perfect for the fireplace surround. The stone will be cut to fit all the area on the inside of the mantle, surrounding the firebox.
I love the texture of this stone! Isn’t it pretty? It’s a little bumpy, which I really like for an application like this.
When I get back home I’m going to paint the walls in the living room before finishing the fireplace. I think lightening the walls with a pale gray and a coat of bright white on the beamed ceiling will make for such a pretty contrast in the space with the all-black fireplace. I’m so, so excited to get this space done and functional!
Here are a few of my inspiration images:
I love love love it black! It is so you.
you are gonna make this look awesome. can't wait to see it finished.
It will look amazing!
LOVE it! So dramatic and super chic. You continue to amaze :)
I LOVE the black — that one room where the TV blends right in above the black fireplace is absolutely genius. It works great in your space too!

Love it!! I did the same thing a while back and couldn't be happier with our fireplace now. I've somehow neglected to take great after photos of it but you can see it a little bit in this post I did about our black French doors . . .

The black is perfect! Should turn out to be a beautiful room.
Yes, so cool! I sense some black doors and windows coming?????
Jenny – we recently finished our fireplace and it looks similar…we love the contrast of the black with white walls…great choice!
Wow. The black fireplace really makes those t.v.s disappear. That's pretty incredible.
i'm amazed how well the black background disguises a tv above the mantel. donna
It's going to look so so good! can not wait to hear what you're up to in NY!
Can't wait to see the final of this fireplace. Love this black color, it really adds drama to the room!
Looks like you're most inspired by that first image with the Chanel tray, which is looovely. I'm in love with black walls right now, but I'm renting and can't paint!

We have a white brick fireplace and I've been debating for 2 years whether to paint it black. Looks great!
I wouldn't have thought of black for a fireplace, but I'm really loving how it's looking! Your renovation pictures are so exciting (:

It already looks so good but I can't wait to see the final reveal!
Love the high contrast. And the mouldings you've added…show stopper! Tres chic.
So my Georgian Style Townhome (my least fave style) has a fussy white wood painted surround ( with 'teeth' and black/white streaked marble..) and then… the floor is …dark stained Saltillo tile…what can I do with it?? Oh yeah..Husband is a tight wad…
love this!!! :)
YES, black is gorgeous! Love it!
So chic!!! Looks awesome!
I love it!! I just painted my fireplace a deep charcoal grey and am so happy with the bold move (it pops against my crisp white walls).
