One of my friends recently bought a large home and she’s taking an interesting approach to decorating the spaces. My friend has great taste and knows what she likes, but she is not a fan of the creative process (and she’ll be the first to tell you that). Since she has so many spaces to furnish and since she’s basically starting from scratch, she’s picked rooms from her favorite magazines and blogs to basically copy in style. I made fun of her at first (“…uh, what? you have a giant house, a healthy budget and you don’t feel like making decorating decisions!? come again?”) But now I think it is sort of a clever approach that really works for her. You know, why not? Especially if the creative aspects aren’t fun for her, and she wants full control over the situation. If my plate wasn’t so full right now, I’d be flying out there to help in a heartbeat, but so far her approach is working and things are getting done.
Anyway, in one of her bathrooms she is attempting to channel Rita Konig circa Domino years. The bathroom already had a vintage pedestal sink, so we worked together to find this wallpaper and a pair of brass sconces, but she got stuck on the mirror sourcing. She asked if I’d seen any great big round mirrors lately that didn’t cost more than $500 (since she splurged a bit on the sconces) :)
Big round mirrors are tricky to find, but as luck would have it, earlier that same exact day I stumbled across a small treasure trove of relatively inexpensive mirrors on the Wisteria site. This huge 38″ wide mirror would look lovely in her bathroom (or how about in a pair for a large bathroom with double sinks?). I’m really loving the simple gilded frame. It’s perfect for layering on a busy papered or tiled wall.
Here are a few others of the many that caught my eye on the site, including a version of the honeycomb/peacock mirror we have all loved for ages. I know a lot of you were sad when Pier1 stopped making their affordable version – well here’s your chance to snag an even more affordable one!

Ooooh… loving the mirror within a mirror (Gerald Pomeroy Design Group one)
I love that gold round mirror!
And I have hung mirrors over large mirrors already and think it looks great.
The round mirror is fantastic! I am so thankful for this post directing me to so many great options. My good friend is in the process of moving to a new place, it is a vintage rehab and is really fantastic but the bathrooms certainly could use an infusion of something fab. A great mirror would be the perfect thing! Thanks for the chic inspiration!

All of these mirrors are such eye candy!
How prevalent are house auctions ? I just got a huge carved gilded mirror for £10 from my local auction and I know that no one will have one like it which I love
CB2 has a gorgeous round gold mirror right now: the Tork Brass Dripping Mirror http://www.cb2.com/tork-brass-dripping-mirror/s514160
Emily – I've been meaning to do a post on Keep! They are brand new, still in the Beta phase (or something close to that). It is SO good though. I am totally all about it. It's basically like Pinterest meets your bookmarks meets your shopping list. You keep a little bookmarklet in your menu bar and any time you are on a retail site on a product page that you like, you just click the bookmarklet and it "keeps" your product find. And then you just keep boards of things like on Pinterest. I have boards for clothes and shoes and mirrors and lamps and rugs, and, and, and! It's great for organizing all the things I love online for myself (and for clients!). You should totally join.

we LOVE it!

Thank you so much for sharing your friend's approach to her new house. I am going to be in a similar situation soon. I currently live in a 1945 tutor in the heart of Nashville but will be moving in to a large 1997 house outside of Denver in June. I am really over-whelmed with how to make this new house my own as my current house has a lot of older details that I love.
I really like the idea of finding rooms in magazines that I like and essentially copying (or almost copying) the ideas in it. Even though I'm a visual artist, home decorating can be paralyzing to me!
I love these mirrors!
What is keep.com? Not quite sure how it works, but I took a glance at it and I think I've been missing out!!
I've done this style of decorating before and it's worked very well. A lot less risk in terms of if you'll like the finished product or not :)
I actually have TWO mirrors sitting at home to decide which will go up in our dining room. But I love them both (and great prices, to boot!) so I may have to find places for both of them!
Gorgeous mirrors!! Loving their use in the bathroom as an added touch of luxury.

Love the peacock mirror…and a Venentian mirror in the bathroom is just elegant!

I think this is a really smart approach for those of us who know what we like and can recognize good design but don't have the knowledge (or time, or inclination) to implement it ourselves!
Can't wait to see what you decided on doing with that giant mirror…
I am obsessed with mirrors. Too bad I don't have more walls in my condo! Love them all!

Love layered mirrors. I copied the one you did for your parents in my master bath. I love it & so does everyone who sees it!
Wisteria has great mirrors. I've posted about their octagon mirror before (http://thepinkchalkboard.blogspot.com/2012/04/chalkboard-favorites-mirror-of-moment.html) and just found another (MUCH CHEAPER) version at grandinroad.com called the Multifaceted Liza Beveled Mirror.
cb2 has some great round mirrors right now too!
Hi Jenny! Such great options! I love the look of the mirrored styles layered on a sheet mirror. One question, I have full sheet mirrors in my master bath, but they are trimmed out with beveled mirrored edges to make a frame. (There's a photo here at the bottom of this post http://dimplesandtangles.blogspot.com/2013/01/2012-home-goals-evaluation-new-home.html )
I can't decide if these are good or dated. What do you think? We're on the verge of a redo for that bathroom and I'm trying to decide if they should stay or go. Thanks!

I just got a huge round mirror that reminds me of a port hole on a ship at Home Goods for $78. Swoon!
I love the layering idea! I know you used 3m strips before, but I worry they wouldn't be strong enough to layer a heavy mirror I have over the wall mounted one. Any other suggestions?
Wow. I can't imagine wanting a nicely decorated home but being completely disinterested in the creative decorating process! I have a friend of mine who feels the same way though. To each their own!

I can't wait to see the new mirror between the built ins!
And I am curious to hear how your friend's place works out – such a different approach. I know some people who would like to do things that way — just not for me personally

I have never thought, or heard of, layering mirrors. What an awesome idea!!
Stunning post! Love the mirror on mirror! Such a great look! Just caught up on other posts! Love the trim on the closet doors! Such a smart idea!
Have a great rest of the week!

Gorgeous inspiration! Thanks for sharing!

I never understood magazines in the bathroom. Sitting on the lou is not meant for a leisurely read, get down to business, get out and read on a cozy couch. Happy Nesting!
Thank you Jenny! That's all the encouragement I need to leave well enough alone on the mirrors. Have a great weekend!
This is a fantastic idea for decorating a home – and probably the original Pinterest". We recently did a mirror round up of Etsy finds.

What an interesting approach!
A mirror on a mirror…you just blew my mind.
I'm in love with the pictures of bathroom mirrors you've posted! Especially the one in London, very luxurious!

I love the brass library style scones next to the mirror. I have also been researching mirrors this week. This post was very helpful.
I do not know if you got a message I sent before telling you about this wonderful spray from Krylon Paint which you spray on the back of glass and it turns it into mirror. Absolutely perfect for furniture.
please do not publish my name or idenity.

Hi. Do you know about the Kirkland "Louis " mirror sold only online? Also did you know that worlds away makes a beautiful version of the " peacock" mirror?
If you use a coupon and their free shipping the kirklands mirror is 100.00. With a little ant gold rub n buff it's pretty darn good. Have had so many compliments and I feel I should be earning commission on the people who have bought it. Just kidding.
Another favorite is the the one from ikea. Actually my two favorites from there. They have three songe style mirrors. All three are fantastic choices.
