Michael and I have a goal of bringing more art into our home over the next couple of years. I’ve mentioned before how it can be a little daunting to know where to start looking for artists. But have you ever been searching, and then all at once an artist’s collection or piece of art just sings to you? Your heart is doing backflips and your mind is racing? That happens to me a lot in museums, where I feel a connection with an artist, but it’s (obviously!) harder to find that in the art market in a real and affordable way.

I’m so, so thrilled to share today’s (HUGE) give away from acclaimed artist and philanthropist, Jessie Mackay, and artist who makes my heart sing. Her work has been praised by NYT art critics and hangs in celebrity homes (check out her paintings in James Carville and Mary Matalin’s home featured in Architectural Digest). Here are a few of my favorites currently available on Jessie’s site.

Today she is generously offering up this 24×30 gallery-wrapped abstract painting called ‘Soft Thoughts.’

I love the bits of bright, almost neon paint peeking through the soft grays and creams.

  1. Like you, I have enjoyed collecting art over time — adding pieces that have real meaning and make your heart sing! Artwork isn't "decor" to me, but a critical part of daily inspiration and an invitation to slow down and pause.

    I especially love the piece by Jessie Mackay and was taken by the title "soft thoughts." This really sums up a need that I, like others, have — that is, the need to slow down those racing thoughts in our heads and let calmness settle in.

    That's what spoke to me in this piece and I would be honored to hang it in my collect Jessie and Jenny.

  10. I LOVE THIS! After I get married (October 20th-woot woot!) this would hang in our living room, but until then, it would hang in the bedroom of my apartment because it would look amazing over my new Serena & Lily quilt!

  29. What a beautiful piece! I would hang it in out master bedroom because the colors would complement the grey color scheme in the room. The piece is perfect for a bedroom because it is equal parts energizing and soothing.

  36. I would hang this beautiful painting above my bed to bring some serenity at the end of the day. As a working mother with a stressful job and a rambunctious 18 month old, I could use some "Soft Thoughts" as I doze off to sleep.

    Went to the site and it was so hard to narrow down to just one favorite! Here are my top 4: Chickens,the blur of Holden Beach, Serengeti 2 (beautiful colors!), and Serenity.

  39. I would hang that lovely painting over my piano- where my dear daughter plays beautiful music… she leaves for college in 3 weeks and it would be a winsome and sweet reminder of her strong spirit- the neon- and her soft heart, the swirls in the painting! thank you~
