Anon #1: You're right that our place is brick-front, but I think the term 'brownstone' is sort of a universal one? Hope it doesn't bug you too much. I guess I just don't know what else to call it. A townhouse? The real estate listing called it a brownstone, so I guess that's why I've been using that term.

Anon #3: As someone who has lived in six different states, four of the places being major metropolitan cities, and also a stint in Europe, I can tell you none of the house-hunts anywhere have compared to my experiences looking for homes here in the NYC area. It's a different beast altogether! But you're right in that it's a hard thing to do anywhere.
