I’ve been super into the pickled or whitewashed look lately so I about died when I saw this Dorothy Draper bench on eBay a couple weeks ago. It was like $700 for just the one, so I didn’t bite. But as they say, inspiration is free.
How great is the red with the glaze?! This would be genius on anything with pretty moulding – a mirror, a side table, a little writing desk…
If you’re looking for some suggestions on how to get a similar look, I highly recommend Ralph Lauren’s technique glaze in Sunfade (which is still available at Home Depot). Or add a bit of white paint to clear Polycrylic.
this would be a great diy project..thanks for sharing..have a lovely new week..xx meenal
I would really like to hear more about Ralph Lauren's Technique Glaze…what it is and how it works! ???
I was so in love with all those RL products….tea stain was my favorite….my HD does not carry any of these anymore….big bummer!
I was just looking for Ralph Lauren tobacco glaze this weekend, and checked on the Technique Glaze as soon as I read this posting. I don't think Home Depot carries it anymore, but it is available through Amazon.com, among other places. I LOVE this bench. I am now on a mission to create my own. Thank you for the inspiration.
LOVE THAT! Very similar to a surface I made to shoot food on for a cookbook I'm doing. I used Martha's Persimmon color paint and glazed with white. Reminds me a lot of the old Nantucket reds my husband wears, that was my free inspiration!
Love the look!
Hi Jenny, just had to let you know you totally rocked my world today with your contribution on the Simplified Bee blog. I enjoyed all the designers takes, but your's was so inspiring. Love that painting, the lamp, the tray…kind of want all of them. Wish I could be a fly on the wall and see you at work. You are seriously talented.
Scored the last 3qts of El glaze at my Home Depot for $1 each. The clerk told me that RL is discontinuing the entire paint line so it's not just that HD won't have it amymore.

Gorgeous. Really want to try some techniques like this on a new piece I'm restoring. Maybe in green… thanks for the inspiration!
