I love that black! Amazing. Such a statement! (wondering how my landlord would feel about hot glue on his walls, though. Painting would be a less textural but safer option yielding the same effect, no?)

Oh, I have a powder room screaming for some fun – this idea must be used. How funky with ribbon! Although Miranda's idea about painting instead may be cheaper and more 'change' friendly. Love these pictures!
The yellow really pops against the walls, I've been tempted to try this, truly frames a room.

I am trimming out a wall with ribbon, but didn't want to put hot glue on the wall.. not sure how that would come out later when I want a change. Instead I bought tiny little nails to put the ribbon up with, and dab paint on the nail head the same color as the ribbon.
I'd rather use hot glue, it seems like it would look better up close (when you get close, you can see the nails if you look for them). Any experience removing hot glued ribbons from walls?
I love it! The yellow/purple room is such an awesome teenager room. Fun, but still really classy and stylish and not over taken by teen-looking stuff.
The yellow outline is very brave but I like the effect it creates.
Very fun idea! This would also work well used in a nook or inside built-ins to give them some pop instead of using paint.

Yes I bought 30 yards once upon a time but never got around to to trying it. if you want lots of black grosgrain ribbon I would love to ship it to a New York address:-)

jenny, awhile back did you post on using happy tape to create diagonals in your old entry way? what would you think about using tape for people like me who are afraid of something as permanent as glue?

I actually did this not too long ago in my rental apartment and I used hot glue. I got tired of it after awhile and when I went to take it down it was super easy. The glue just peels right off! Sure there were some difficult areas but even then no paint came off the walls. I would definitely do it again.
And I wouldn't even need my Husband for this!
Jenny: love your stuff and just had to comment here. I have done this on walls, furniture, bookcases, roller shades etc. I love trim and it adds so much fabulous detail. BUT the key is to use "sealah" two sided tape. Google it. Comes in every size and allows the trim to lay perfectly flat all the way to the edges. You will never get the same look with hot glue. Plus it is so easy to use! Also, buy the trim in bulk for a room, many sites on the internet! Thanks

Love this idea! I have seen it in a few magazines and it adds so much to a room but looks pretty simple.

renter option: use tape!
My apartment is in a turn of the century coach house that was renovated in the 70's (?) so the trim is at different heights on the original walls than it is on the new walls. I took the tallest molding and painted to that height in white on each wall, and then added black electrical tape above that. I used the tape to outline the ceiling as well.
This will pull off super easy when I move and made the room look less wonky. Just make sure that you don't pull the electrical tape as you're adding it to the walls because the parts that I did stretched out and had to be replaced. the rest of the tape has lasted 3 years without reapplying.
Love the idea of trimming a room with table. Tomorrow I"m posting on a table I trimmed w/ribbon. Maybe I"ll work up the courage and trim a room in it!

Re: your next post above, Imperial Trellis — why are you schlepping to the Bronx for Target? The Jersey City Target is huge and MUCH closer. Take the PATH train from WTC or Christopher St.
I tried this in my half bath a few months ago and loved the idea – unfortunately, my walls and corners are REALLY uneven, so the ribbon turned out looking very messy with crooked lines. Any tips for obtaining a straight edge?
Love the way you trimmed room out vertically as well as horizontally. I used ribbon as chair railing in nursery and my 27 mo old still hasn't damaged it at all. The thing about it, is everyone that comes in the room things I painted or stenciled the ribbon, which would be a miracle with my painting skills.LOL.
