Friends, I’m so happy to report that our loft has WALLS!! Hallelujah. There’s still some finishing that will take place over the next day or two, but I couldn’t be happier to finally have closets to hang up our clothes and put away the second half of our boxes. And then!! Let the decorating begin!
I’m thinking of a pair of sputnik or sputnik-esque chandeliers over the farmhouse table in the dining area. Something like this vintage beauty would be the ideal. But at $4800, this one’s definitely not in the budget.
I think this one is cool, from Shades of Light ($350)
And this one from Z Gallerie is similar, for $250
I love the size (36″!!) of this sputnik from Room Service Home ($550).
Faux bamboo meets sputnik in Jonathan Adler’s Meurice chandelier ($750).
I’m loving the smoke version of the Lotus Flower Chandelier – It has a sort of feminine sputnik vibe.
The IKEA Maskros is a great size for the price tag ($89). It might be worth a try… Maybe as a place holder until I can afford the real deal sputnik?
Have you come across any great chandeliers lately?
Love that first one:)
YAY for walls! So exciting to be moving on to the next step, and with those chandelier options I can't wait to see what you do! –Gretchen O.
I saw you on the Nate Berkus show yesterday :)
I always loved the one they did at Anthro using plastic water bottles cut – to look like lacy flowers.
I love this look!

These fixtures remind me of the Comet Fixture I have from Horchow. It was sooo much fun to see you in the show yesterday sitting next to Emily, as in the design star! You looked great! Janell
I would be thrilled with any of them!
Interesting that you refer to these as "Sputnik" chandeliers. Sputnik was launched 53 years ago this week by the Soviets.
It's something about those Sputniks that draw me to them. I love all of them and I'm sure that you'll pick the perfect one for your space.
I love the ikea one, especially in multiples. Its graphic and inexpensive. I have the lotus flower in my master bedroom and its great but doesn't cast too much light. The sputniks are great. I also like the look of the bubble chandliers by Jean Pelle or the random light by Moooi. I'd probably go with the Ikea until I could afford what i really wanted!
PS. Saw you on Nate. You looked great!
How fun!! Can't wait to see the reveal…Keep us posted –
I love the idea of something funky and modern over a distressed, more traditional piece of furniture.
You looked great on Nate yesterday!!
I love the look of these. One of my favorites is the spun glass chandelier from Shades of Light.

You are so great with DIY projects I bet you could make something that is just as beautiful as the vintage Sputnik. The other's are great but I adore the fullness of the vintage one. Personally, I would go with the ikea or two of the Jonathan Adlers.
Seriously, make the investment! I adore all of these lights. You have such great style. I can't wait to see what you do with the loft…so exciting!

Love these! Yes, I searched long and hard for great light fixtures above my dining room and finally got 2 woven (light wood) pendant lights from West Elm. I love them. LOVE. :)
Morgan from The Brick House did a DIY version of Lindsey Adelman's chandelier design and linked to the artist's original designs and instructions. I know you could make something that would reflect your style, much like Morgan did.
Love your blog, haven't missed a post in months! Thanks for the inspiration! I have recently been working on my first home in Oregon, an old 50's suburban ranch, and the sputnik from zgallerie was the first item I bought and put in my home. It lives above the dining table and it lights up the whole living room at night which is beautiful from the front picture window. It has been the perfect "accessory"! -Ashley
If a sputnick is what you really want- there is a cheap version at Urban Outfitters online. I think it is 160.00.
:)
I have been eyeing up this fixture to satisfy my wanting a lotus light. I love the black trimming.
Congrats on the walls! You know we are all dying to see your new space with your style thrown in. :) Good luck as you pull it all together! Any of these lights would be fantastic, but of course I love the first one you show best. :)
Not the IKEA one, but I ADORE the one with the leaves or smth! It's soooo classy, so romantic… It will look amazing with a table like yours… :)
Check out Brooklym Limestone'
s blog – she did a bathroom re-model of her beach house and used a sputnik bought via eBay and I think it was $150.00. Hope that helps!

I may be in the minority, but I really like the Ikea chandy and think you could really make a gorgeous statement with 2 or 3 of those! Can't wait to see what you go with. :)
I LOVE the sputnik,(and want one for my entry) however I was considering the Ikea one (for over the dining room table), but I think I'll try to dust it with some gold spraypaint, just to give it something extra, something vintage-ish
when it's up I'll post it
I love all those Sputnik options, but I have to say, I love my Ikea Maskros light! I say definitely go with that one until you can afford a bigger more Sputnik-like options!
The IKEA one is cute, but I kinda hate that it is instantly recognizable as IKEA. The opposite of special, at this point.
I'm partial to the Jonathan Adler one, but they are all beautiful! I just did a post yesterday on my daughter's room using the Ikea chandelier, it's quite big for her room but she begged me for it and all her friends love it! http://housetoyourhome.com/2010/10/05/tackling-the-tween-bedroom/
I can't wait to see photos of your loft!
I did a post a while back about my favorite sputniks and I came across an absolute show stopper at 1st Dibs. I was a little pricy but what a stunner! I'm really looking forward to the photos of your loft!

The IKEA one just looks like what it is – a cheap, plastic place-holder.
The others are great, though.
You're so handy. Have you ever seen those giant round modern chandies made from tons of little plastic toys and debris from the beach? The Rug Co uses one in an ad. That's a high-end version of cheap plastic. Very inspiring.
I imagine you making one.
I love that Jonathan Adler. Can't WAIT to see your after shots!
That's nice!
If you want and sputnik, you could visit this link, http://www.vintage-and-chic.com/, she solds vintage candeliers.
Bye.
The Ikea one is fantastic in person. But it's huge. I mean HUGE.
The IKEA Maskros is huge AND fantastic! I used it in a "groovy" sitting room for an eight year-old girl. It was adorable!! Not too much light, though, if that is a concern. YAY for walls!!
I found the sputnik in my guest bedroom on Craigslist for $40. It's worth perusing the old CL and maybe commuting a little bit to find a vintage one.
I almost got a HUGE one for $60 – but the guy undersold it to someone else. I was pissed.
I was all set to buy the ikea one, until i saw it in person..not so much. and considering its almost 100..and the z galerie is 250, im gonig to wait.
Design Sponge just posted a DIY project for you! LOL Its DIY for a chandelier.

I vote for the Jonathan Adler Meurice. Very present in the design world now. You'd think I'd be as sick of it. But still makes me swoon. The IKEA… know (from experience) it is little light…and that one I am a little tired of. Also love the Room and Board fixture. You can't go wrong with Room and Board, in my opinion. Congrats on the walls :))
Don't know if you're still looking, but I found some cute, reasonably priced ones at LightintheBox.com (not affiliated)
Like this one – only $149
