Back, but not all here

Hi everyone! I’m experiencing some serious burn out this week. Hi everyone! I’m experiencing some serious burn out this week. We had a wonderful two-week “vacation” to Arizona, and while it was wonderful to visit with family, there was not much relaxing happening. And flying alone cross-country with three little ones was not such a treat, though that went better than expected. We got home last night at 1:00 am and my body totally fell apart. The dreaded flu.

To add to all that, I’m seriously feeling the weight of a neglected business and blog right now. I’m so sorry to friends and clients/potential clients that I owe emails to. And SO sorry that I have not posted all week! Bad Jenny.

On a better note, we finished my parent’s bedroom on Saturday and it is really beautiful. I have all sorts of great before and afters for you that I promise to post tomorrow (hopefully) and on Saturday to make up for the radio silence this week.

I’m going to try to sleep off this flu and then hit the keyboard like it’s nobody’s business. Talk soon.

love,
jenny

PS just because I hate to do a post without any design inspiration, I’ll share these awesome little pendants from IKEA that I spied this week (wish I could find the link). They have about a 5 inch diameter.

They are battery operated and hang from your ceiling on a string (AKA no hard wiring required). Love the modern shade style and the black, white or red color options. And you can’t beat the price: $20. A great option for us renters with boring kitchens. What about hanging a series of these over a kitchen bar with some 1/2″ wide gold chain from Home Depot? cool.

  1. Girl you're acting like we're really ditching your blog! You could've been on hiatus for 10 years like Sade and we'd still be here..lol. Feel better Chica!

  2. Thanks for the link to the fixture, Antonia! That's really cool that they are solar powered. I'm pretty sure there is a battery powered option too. At least that's what I remember from my quick examination last week. I'll have to look closer when I go to IKEA next.

  3. Jenny–you give your readers more than enough good stuff so you should never fret about taking some time off. All of us know you're a busy mommy and are amazed by all that you accomplish, anyway. Take it easy; we'll all still be here :) (Besides, that's one of the perks of working for yourself, right?)

    Feel better.

  4. Dreaded flu bug – that recycled airplane air will do that to ya – I should know! Get some rest, we'll be here with baited breath when you're 100%.
    Glad your travels were safe!

  5. I have certainly missed you this week and to keep myself entertained have been going back through all of your old posts. Totally blog stalking.

Feel better and I can't wait to see the pics!

  6. So does this mean that the lights are on, but nobody's home! I really hope you put aside all blog guilt, take care of you and those kiddos and we will be cheering for you to get better.
Now if only we had batteries to re-charge when our own are running low.
    rest up dear-

  7. I just had my third little girl five weeks ago, and I am doing well to write three thank-you letters a day. Seriously. I often wonder how you do it all. I am looking forward to more posts, but know that you have some loyal readers out there. I will just catch up on your archives for now…. :)

    Hope you are well soon!

  8. You just had a baby! And took a cross country trip with three kids by yourself??? And redid your parents bedroom? I know what it's like to want to do it all, but you're doing an amazing amount of stuff. Have grace with yourself. :)

  9. Feel better soon! I LOVED the fabric and color palette for the bedroom, so I've been dying to see the end result! Fantastic as always, I'm sure.

  10. You are amazing and never stop. I think you've earned a chance to stop, rest, relax and NOT FEEL GUILTY about it! Your loyal readers understand, and don't worry we will still be here when you come back ;)

  11. you're an amazing blogger, designer, and mommy to boot — i think this is just your body telling you to take it easy for once! feel better soon jenny :)

  12. Rest up and feel better soon! We will all be here when you get back:) Look forward to seeing parents room.

  14. Please rest – we would much rather have you healthy than keeping up with posting. We'll wait for you!

Those lights are awesome – and I love how you pointed out what a great option they would be for renters! I may have to look into getting a couple!

  15. I don't know how you do it anyway, so please rest and don't worry so much!
We are all here, when ever you are back!
    Get better soon!

    Love ~ Victoria

PS: Love those pendants from IKEA!

  16. I feel your pain! We've been passing around viruses (virii?) for weeks. It is no fun. Can't wait to see the photos. You have dozens of loyal fans that will hang around patiently until you're back and at 'em.

  17. Hi Jenny – I really enjoy your blog. My husband & I are getting graduate degrees in tandem, working, raising a wonderful baby, & moving around like ping-pong balls. So your advice for renters is quite welcome! And frankly, the whole unlimited budget, absolutely fabulous design blogger thing is, well, covered. Love your grounded, honest experience.

And, speaking from experience, burnout (& that whole work-guilt-mama thing) is serious! So is recovering from giving birth. Take your time, call in some guest bloggers, go totally radio silent. Whatevs! We'll be here to welcome you when you get back.

Besides, the silver-gilded bombe chest you did is worth a whole month of mediocre posts.
