After finishing Restoring A House in the City, I definitely would chose a grand brownstone in the metropolis. I’m completely in love with the Greek Revival style especially.
Commenting closes Thursday, February 4 at midnight. Good luck!
my dream home would be one i could work at to make my own. i love old homes and unique features that i can add both new and old pieces to for an ecletic/cozy place to hang!
Oh, pick me…we are just finishing up a major renovation and i would love to see how others do it. We took our 4 story townhouse down to 3 exterior brick walls…and rebuilt it with a modern clean aesthetic.
We are currently renovating an old house in the city. It's perfect for us now when we're young and very active, but when we have children we'd love to move to the country and buy an old farmhouse with beautiful gardens!
french doors… to anywhere!
I just bought my dream house and can't wait to begin restoring it! It's a 1909 Foursquare that hasn't been changed in almost that long! I am so excited to polish its worn out shell into the resplendent beauty it once held!
Looks like an amazing book! I would love to restore an old inner city townhouse in Sydney one day (definitely in the dream file)! Tracey xx
Being a first time home owner, (I just bought my house last April,) I have quickly realized that having your dream home from the very start is rarely a reality. My dream home would be on the South Carolina coast. An old restored beach house with beautiful views. Or, a unique restoration in the Village in NYC would be fantastic. But what I have learned is that even though I own a land locked home in the suburbia west, I can use different design elements to bring my dream home into what I'm currently living in. So I may not live on the east coast, and I may hate the western cabin look that is so abundant where I live, but just because this happens to be my current circumstance, I don't have to succumb. I can turn my home, no matter where it is, into what I want it to be. I am hoping in just a few short years my current home will be closer to what my dream home in my mind looks like. Perhaps this book would help with that?!?
I'm in LOVE with all the old colonial style houses in Newburyport, MA. They're all tightly packed together but that is the charm of Newburyport. I would love to gut renovate one!
My dream house would be an old "altbau" (old build, generally turn-of-the-century) Berlin apartment. Wood floors, 12-foot ceilings with gorgeous moldings and patterning, huge windows. Ideally overlooking a big green courtyard, good for kids to run in. Decor= eclectic, a mix of modern and antiques, bold graphics and Art Nouveau. Wish I could recreate this when I go back to the States!
I would love to live in an old Philadelphian row home. It would have a little backyard and a roofdeck. I also wouldn't mind having a beach house. Everything would be crisp and white and I'd throw in some sea-inspired decorations for good measure.
I've been lusting after this book since it was released! If I don't win, I will definitely buy it. Thanks for hosting such an amazing giveaway!
Ooh, Jenny — this is a great giveaway! I was just reading a review of this book.
I have to say that my ideal renovation situation would be a la Anna at Door Sixteen. I adore the Hudson Valley and my other half's family also lives in Newburgh. That historic district is very close to our hearts and I'd love to get my hands on a home there — it's definitely an area that needs some serious TLC.
I'm de-lurking for this one. My favorite style is bungalow, and I would gladly restore one. Thanks for this givaway!
Sounds like a great read. Hoping to move this summer….. looking forward to new home projects!
Hmm.. I would have to say that my dream house is really old and rustic, something that has tons of character and personality!
I would LOVE an old craftsman style house I could restore, but give a little edge to it! A la Cottage Living (RIP). Anyone remember Lee Kleinhelter's cottage or the market editor with the oyster shell covered fireplace? Ahhhh dream.
My husband longs for a bit of land with an old house to restore. I have to admit, I'm catching the vision too! I think we could adjust to being country folk!
Oooo!! This looks fabulous! Enter me into the giveaway. I've got a giveaway going on my blog too. Come and enter!
First the book, then the victorian in laurel village in SF.
My dream home would be an older fixer upper in downtown Asheville, NC. I would love to take a home filled with history and memories and add my own.
I love the California bungalow houses. There's something about the wood's natural earthy feel. Fireplace flanked by built in bookcases, a ton of natural light shining in….
Oh I can go on and on…
my dream home would be a mix of comfort/naturalism plus color. beautiful hardwood floors, lots of windows, a landscaped yard. white. off-white. blue. some pink. maybe some yellow. comfy, warm, relaxing, fun, cheerful. all mixed into one :)
I would love a Craftsman cottage, preferably somewhere where I could look out the window and see mountains. :)
Simple. Small. Lots of architectural details.
My dream home would be an old painted lady Victorian…those houses are beautiful and there's one up the street that's been under renovation..I'm jealous!
i love your blog! i have been following you for some time and you always inspire me!

a greek revival home in the french quarter of new orleans with lots of natural light, surrounded by beautiful flowers, and furnished with an unexpectedly modern sensibility.
dream 'home'? how about 'homes'… because i can't decide. (yes, i need to win the lottery.) but i'm thinking more of a bungalow then a mansion. older construction vs new. character vs spec house. thanks for the giveaway!
centuries old in the city, what is better than a brownstone or red brick exterior with character?
What beautiful, inspiring pictures. Thank you for the giveaway.
Definetly a new build with classic details. I live about 10 miles from my dream home, unfortunately it's about $1.5 Mill but I guess that's' why it's my "dream" home.
Perfect timing, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. My dream home would be an older home with lots of character that we could modify to perfectly suit our tastes. With a yard big enough for a garden and treehouse, but within walking distance to the store, library, etc.
So delighted to have found your lovely blog! (via Odi et Amo.) My dream house would have to be an old Southern style mansion – all the white columns you can handle! One of my favs is a classic Milledgeville, GA home with FOURTEEN columns! I would buy it tomorrow. http://sfair.blogspot.com/2009/06/southern-architecture.html
I would love a Craftsman in the country. Not SUPER country, but just on the outskirts of the city limits. I can't wait to have built-ins and a lovely dining room. I keep designing and redesigning this perfect house in my head….they don't make houses like that anymore! I want some character, not new construction! :)
What fun project that would be. Someday…
a plantation style georgian manor with working shutters
Someday, oneday, soon I will have my dream of my brownstone in the west village.
A girl can dream right?
I love the Greek Revival style and love your blog!!!!
I love an old house with character. Hard wood floors, many built ins, crown molding, etc. I would love to have more land to spread out as well. Thanks for the giveaway!
I live in a tiny apartment built in 1925 and would stay forever if it weren't so darn small. I love the neighborhood, though, so dream of upgrading to one of the beautiful old houses a few streets over…..
I've never won anything, but maybe today is my lucky day! Such a lovely looking book!
Me and my hubby are trying to renovate an old house, I would love to have that book!! Love your blog.
I recently left a rental in Brooklyn and purchased a home in the country. The home was a blank slate and I'm slowly making over every inch of it.
This sounds like a really interesting book! I am pretty sure my first place will be a fixer-upper so maybe it can come in handy some day soon.
My dream house a Federal townhouse on Astor Place!
-EM
Trying to figure out google login….
It's still a Federal rowhouse downtown.
I would LOVE a country farm house. I drool over the one at the end of Marley and Me every time I've seen it.
Ooh, my husband and I talk about this all the time – our dream would be a frame farmhouse with deep front porches, hard-wood floors, huge windows everywhere, & lots of lovely built-ins & architectural details.
A big old bungalow full of wood and charm, with the dreamiest front porch you've yet sat upon, on a huge lot (2 acres?) just in or on the edge of a small, progressive town in Canada. Close to skiing, please. Dream big, eh?
I would love a house with lots of windows and trees surrounding it. Something private where I can bring the outdoors in with a sunroom, and have a great wrap-around porch for warm summer nights!
I'm a country girl at heart.
I dream of polishing back to life an old victorian house in the heart of San Francisco! Currently on the hunt for such a diamond in the rough, I hope to find a house with great bones, and the kind of craftsman-quality details that are so rarely found these days. When you walk into these old houses, you know they have stories to tell. They just need someone with a vision!
