Whether you are currently renovating an old home, or plan to someday take on a huge renovation (me!), or even if you just have an appreciation of beautiful old homes (and amazing decor!!), this book is a great read. Pure eye candy from start to finish, and loads of useful information.

To enter to win your own copy of this big, beautiful coffee table book, please leave a comment here about your dream home. A new build with classic details? A centuries-old townhouse in the city? A charming farmhouse in the country?

After finishing Restoring A House in the City, I definitely would chose a grand brownstone in the metropolis. I’m completely in love with the Greek Revival style especially.

Commenting closes Thursday, February 4 at midnight. Good luck!

  1. I love renovation projects! They are a lot of work, but nothing is better than the character and charm found in a historic home!

  2. Oh my! That book is on my wishlist! I am a true lover of old homes. I'm currently living in and slowly updating a 1920 bungalow, which I love, but my dream would be a Foursquare or Queen Anne style home. These are both very common where I live in the Northwest, but if I lived an urban lifestyle on the east coast I would love to live in a brownstone.

  3. My dream house would be an old townhouse in the heart of Boston. It would have all the original details, including a brick exterior with bla ck shutters. I would love to incorporate new modern conveniences and colors while maintaining the history and character of the home. Who wouldn't want to own a piece of Americana?!

  4. i would have to say my dream house would be a farmhouse with a mix of modern and traditional decor. i like clean and simple with pops of color.

  5. That book looks absolutely gorgeous!

My dream house would definitely be a late 19th or early 20th c. row house in DC that needs some TLC, but still has all the old detailing.

  6. That book looks great! I love a farmhouse look on the outside with very clean colors and lines on the inside. Very pure looking.

  7. My dream home is a little cottage in the country…. bare wood floors, lots of light, and a a chicken coop and a beehive in the back!

  8. The city townhouse from Royal Tenenbaums; the "dilapidated aristocrat" thing REALLY speaks to me. Grand spaces and lots of weird little nooks for the kids is my dream.

  9. I dream of restoring a 1920-1930's bungalow in a historic district in Austin. Hopefully someday!

  10. I think I'm living in it — a loft condo in a converted high school in Lexington, MA. My unit was the auditorium so I have 18 foot celings, lots of funky space one window that is 5'x16' and a crawl space for storage.

  11. I would love to live in a remodeled urban home with lots of great light and well designed common space and storage. It wouldn't need to be big, just efficient.

  12. A farmhouse – country setting, not too far from civilization. Stone, beautiful architecture, amazing views, lots of land for little ones to explore. Lots of light, and oh so comfortable.
    Hoping for that gorgeous book!!!
    Thanks!

  13. My dream home is the abandoned and disintegrating shack. The homes that were clearly once loved but have been left behind for years. Bringing something like that back to life, with all of it's stories and history and beauty, is one of the most exhilarating projects I can imagine.

  14. I'm a college sophomore studying historic preservation and urban planning and I got a chance to glance at this book while I was in New York last week, and I'd love to own a copy of it. My dream home has lots of windows, a view of the Smokies on one side and the Great Plains on the other (I'm a dreamer!). Old wood floors, antique and modern pieces mixed together, and a kitchen with lots of light and open spaces. I'd also like fireplaes in every room if that's not too much to ask!

  15. I just got this book so you dont have to enter me in the contest, I just wanted to say that its a great one and the winner will love it!!

  16. Would LOVE this book! My dream is an old brick townhouse in the city…near work and play ;) Would love to have original woodwork restored to preserve the architectural feel of the house, but would add modern flare through color & furniture choice…

  17. We currently live in a 1936 cutie in old Orange County, CA. I love it. I'm addicted to telephone nooks, laundry chutes, etc. That being said, I actaully think my dream home would be to build a brand new home with old world style. The maintenance on this house is a doozy!.

  18. Oh! This book is already on my Amazon wish list! How wonderful would that be to win it during my birthday week? My husband and I are looking to purchase a historic home in Detroit. Most likely built between 1920-1945 with beautiful architectural details, just waiting for lots of love and hard with…with a few tears mixed in I am sure.
Thank you for a lovely giveaway!

  19. After a summer of house searching, I can confidently say that my dream house would be full of architectural details. Where are the homes with quirky moldings, windows of all shapes and sizes, wood floors, reasonably tall ceilings and imagination?

  20. My dream home is the one I live in, that is, with about $50,000 put into it! We have a long way to go, and this book looks like it's chock full of inspiration.

  21. that kitchen is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen. i live in an 1860s brownstone in brooklyn that's remarkably well-preserved, but if i had the money, there's a whole lot of spatial reorganizing i'd like to do…

  22. I've always dreamed of living in an old Victorian, complete with a turret, at least one bay window with built in window seat, and a lovely wraparound porch. I'm not sure how I'd decorate the inside, but I adore the architecture!

  23. Beautiful book! We are fixing up our townhome and starting from scratch, it looks like a beautiful inspiration!

  24. My dream is to restore a brownstone on the Upper West Side. I love old houses, and I love the city even more. It would be the perfect mix. Every time I walk past a brownstone for sale, I have to check the price, and make a wish.

  25. My dream home would probably be a mid-century bungalow with lots of architectural interest and character. The term 'new construction' scares me! Great giveaway!

  26. I would love (and plan) to restore an older house on land in the Pacific Northwest. My husband and father are in construction so I am a very lucky girl. This book looks lovely!

  27. I would love to own an old Victorian that I can fix up with a modern kitchen and huge bathtub! I would like it to have lots of light and character and be sold at a good price!

  28. I have my dreamhouse – a 1800's victorian farmhouse on 20 acres of land. We're currently renovating the house, barns and guest house. Sometimes it's hard not to feel like Shelly Long in "The Money Pit!!"

  29. I already own my "dream house"–although it's not quite there yet. It's an old yellow brick city house built in 1898. It had been neglected for a long time before we got there–which means, thankfully, former owners hasn't performed any horrible "remuddles" and most of the details were left intact. However, it also means we only have one outlet in ever bedroom and other such modern day issues in an old house. I'd love to win the book to help me bring this grand old house back to glory!

  30. Is this how you enter the giveaway! I'm feeling lucky! Thanks for your for your entertaining and inspiring blog! AG

  31. I just made an offer on a house (my first! woohoo!). It was built in the 40s and has a huge lot with LOTS of potential. I am SUPER excited to get started on it (it has great bones, but definitely needs some love). This book would be wonderful!
