Thanks to author Ingrid Abramovitch and the lovely people at Artisan Publishing, we have a copy of the amazing book, Restoring A House in the City, up for grabs!
Whether you are currently renovating an old home, or plan to someday take on a huge renovation (me!), or even if you just have an appreciation of beautiful old homes (and amazing decor!!), this book is a great read. Pure eye candy from start to finish, and loads of useful information.
To enter to win your own copy of this big, beautiful coffee table book, please leave a comment here about your dream home. A new build with classic details? A centuries-old townhouse in the city? A charming farmhouse in the country?
After finishing Restoring A House in the City, I definitely would chose a grand brownstone in the metropolis. I’m completely in love with the Greek Revival style especially.
Commenting closes Thursday, February 4 at midnight. Good luck!
My dream house is the one that we are currently restoring in the city! Looks like an awesome book and I would just love to win it! We're currently looking for inspiration on how to restore our original circa-1800 wide plank hardwood floors that are in ROUGH shape!
well, i have about 10 dream homes :) but most often i dream of having a townhouse (or at least a duplex) in cobble hill or brooklyn heights, both in brooklyn. that's my weekday home. on the weekends we'd go up to our light-filled, modernist cabin in the berkshires…
Mine is a modern design – floor to ceiling windows, an entire wall of windows that opens to the outdoors.
one day i will have a a beautiful craftsman style house that i will fill with my flea market treasures and thrift store finds :)
A Classic Colonial Revival, Georgian Townhouse or maybe a 19th Century Farmhouse. So fun to dream about, but I guess for now my 500 sq ft apartment will do!
I would love an old farmhouse or a brownstone in the city. Maybe I need one of each?
Swoon! Such beautiful images! We are hoping to buy our first home in the next year and these images make me so excited for home ownership!
I'd love a traditional colonial with navy shutters- yes please!
My dream is an 1800s farm house that has been hardly touched. Of course, it is almost impossible to find an untouched beauty, but one of my life dreams is to restore an old house. cneaglefan at hotmail dot com
I would love to build my dreamhouse with old, classic charm, reclaimed wide planked wood floors, beautiful windows for bright light, clean lines, open and flowing rooms, wood beam ceilings… I am constantly looking for inspiration.. there are so many fabulous and beautiful ideas out there!
My dream home is on a quiet street in a city full of energy, modern appliances but with lots of character and charm.
I think I would love a city rowhouse with a small courtyard/garden for the children and dogs to play in, that would be perfect…and maybe a country or mountain house for the weekends :)

Oh, how I would love to have a home in the country decorated just like that! Until then, I could use a little inspiration for my own home.
Today I would love to buy a rundown cottage, cape cod style and gut it and start over.
But then tomorrow I'll really want a beat up brownstone to rehab.
It changes daily! :)
What a gorgeous book! My dream home would be a 100-yr-old semi-restored NYC brownstone. Original floors, molding, built-ins and doorknobs – all the charming touches. But renovated kitchen (of course) and bathroom.
I love traditional, and I love modern, I live in a house built in 1916 and I see so much potential if only I had the time and resources.
We have a century old brick twin right outside the city with secret places and tons of charm. I love it, but it is work. But my dream home would have to be the farmhouse. Open floor plan with huge plank floors and windows everywhere. Great giveaway. I have this book on my wishlist from Amazon. We will put it to good use (not just a coffee table display).
thanks
Beautiful and homey. Love it.
Beautiful book of a great house!
My dream home is the house I live in, which also happens to be the house I grew up in. I hope for it to be the house my grandkids visit me in. This grown is fertile with our family history and I can't wait to see what we reap in the future. I hope to win this book, because even though this house is my dream house, it does need work. Thanks for the chance to win.

I have always loved the city but lately I feel the country calling me. I think we're going for a farmhouse when the time comes. This book looks awesome!!
I have two dream houses! My first one is a home in the style of the one from the movie "Something's Gotta Give". I love the color palette and how it's right on the beach. My other dream house is like the one from "Practical Magic", it's old, full of character. Amazing wood floors, a beautiful garden, and a kitchen to die for.
I think in the end my dream home has a lot of character.
I have a heartbreaking story about my dreamhouse…
A few years ago, my husband and I were considering buying a vacation home in Margate, New Jersey. We looked at a house there that didn't "quite belong" but both fell madly in love with it. It had been on the market for a long time. It was built by the same architect that built Betsy Ross's house and had many of the orginal features. It had a gorgeous tin roof, original windows, orginal floors, wood beams on the celings, and all of the door knobs and hinges were handmade and intact. Incredible. We finally made the decision and called the realtor back to put in an offer…and it had sold a few days before! We still vacation in NJ, and everytime I pass it a small tear rolls down my cheek :) Maybe it will come back to us someday. xo
yes please! – larousse
Oh, I need this book.
I would love a little Cape Cod style cottage situated by the ocean. Something with lots of beachy charm that I could add my touch to!
Looks like it would be a great book!
Growing up in NOLA I've always dreamed of a grand home on the parade route portion of St. Charles Avenue.
While that still holds true, I'd love to build a Greek revival on the Chesapeake Bay which is closer to DC. Fondly called, Chesapeake Hall, the long drive leading to the front door opens to a centerhall open on the back to sweeping views of inlet waterways and bobbing crab traps.
I love English cottages. I already live in one of sorts (albeit not in England), but ideally I'd like one with more space and leaded windows. And in a climate that was more kind to cottage gardens!
The house I'm currently restoring (and have been for the last ten years!) is pretty close to my dream house. It's an unpretentious 1910 classic three-story with a front porch and tall old windows. In my daydreams, the ceilings would be a foot higher, the fireplace would be more interesting, and the whole things would just a leeetle bit bigger, with a generous front hall and a mudroom! Oh, and a much bigger yard.
Renovated Row House for sure. I have a friend who grew up in a beautifully renovated and decorated Brownstone in Brooklyn just block from the water. I still think of that home as my dream home- I was always jealous of her family's incredible style! Such expansive spaces and hallways, the whole house just screamed luxury. Thanks!
Looks like a fabulous book, and of course I would love to receive it!!
What a fabulous giveaway! I am so excited!
I am definitely a sucker for old homes. I'm talking late 19th or early 20th century. I would love to redo a little classic home here in the south somewhere!
Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
Oh and would love to redo a city townhouse!
A mansion from the 1930s in West University Place (by Houston)!
Count me in! Love the pics you've posted from the book.
old townhouse with modern furnishings!
My dream house is a just the right size cottage with lots of charm. It must, however, be in the perfect neightborhood where our kids can run free!
Just bought our first home and can't wait to get started on renovations! What a great giveaway!
I already own my dream home, but it isn't quite living up to its potential just yet. It's a 1905 brick folk Victorian. We bought it totally gutted and have been doing everything (framing, electrical, plumbing, flooring…EVERYTHING) ourselves, so it's taking some time. We live in a small town, so I'm imagining it as a slightly more sophisticated version of a farmhouse – something homey and comfortable. All the modern conveniences, but true to the age and style of the home.
I am a country girl at heart… so for me it's a farmhouse with modern touches. My father and I renovated the house my great grandfather was born in (originally constructed in 1856)… I have lots of pics if you're interested in seeing how we've decorated (we used lots of your ideas!)

i would love to restore a home. it's fun to work within limits. i love the hints of color these places have.
My dream home would be a new build with arts and crafts and classical details. We're living in an old home now, and it's not enough of the fun stuff…too many plumbing, electrical, insulation, etc. issues going on without much charm. That looks like a fabulous book!
I would love an old spanish style with exposed wood beams and iron window boxes and a little courtyard. The book looks fun and I do love a lot of different styles.
i'd be a happy camper if my dream house had that kitchen in it w/ the rolling ladder….
Please pick me. Im originally from NYC and grew up in a Brownstone and currently live in Arizona. Im always so homesick. Love that style!! Will forever be in my heart
A 1920's Spanish Revival on a quiet tree lined street!
My dream home is in the town where I grew up and ever I since I got my drivers license when I was 16 I have detoured down its street to see it! I love this house. My husband and I moved recently, and before we left, I took tons of pictures of it (I'm sure the owners thought I was a stalker!) But, I may not get the chance to buy it one day so I figured I better have good pictures so that I can build myself an exact replica!
Wow – tough question. Dream home. I think I'd have to say either a beautiful town house in London or a loft with huge windows in Paris… yep. I'd take either one.
Great giveaway!

I'm ready for a spread out 1 story home with LOTS & LOTS of windows. No more 2 stories if possible. I'd have a large kitchen with LOTS of cabinets and a huge great room and an adjoining sun room. Maybe one day….lol.
1900s bungalow!!! Exposed interior brick, hardwood floors, plantation shutters, double moulding in glossy white around all windows, large front porch with a swing and plenty of room for potted plants, attic renovated as an office/playroom with sky-lights, pedastal sink, octagon shaped white tile with black accent tile, basement coal shoot… And hopefully, some information/pictures from the original home owners. If only the walls of old homes could speak!
