When I grow up, I want to be my mother. She is amazing in every sense of the word. Would you believe me if I told you she whipped up this skirted console table for me in no time flat with little more than an old bookshelf, an iron and some staples?
I bought the ikat fabric for, no joke, $5.99 a yard!! It was a steal at this fabric store in Mesa, AZ, though I think they may be a national chain. It is a great weight, so if you’re looking for some ikat upholstery fabric, this one would be a good option.
And, yes, that IS an 80lb marble parrot on my table. Don’t you have one?
I love it. It's so eye catching!
Okay, I must admit, I'm completely blown away, and jealous, of your crafty mother, the workmanship, the steal-of-a-deal you got on that fab fabric, and frankly, by your lovely parrot as well. That is one beautifully curated display you've got there!
Yes, I can believe it! I'm still amazed at the beautiful panels you made!

It looks amazing. Now I understand where you get your incredible talent. If you want to be your mom when you grow up, I want to be you :)
I love it. I just picked up some Ikat Fabric for 50 cents a yard… can you believe it. I had know idea what I am going to do with it, but it was too awesome not to grab… it's a thin weight though… love your console!
It is pretty fantastic. Can you give up the name of the chain?
Well color me inspired.
Wow, that is absolutely gorgeous! You did an amazing job. I am in love with that fabric.
Are there pleats anywhere on that bad boy?
Are there pleats anywhere on that bad boy?
Got to love crafty moms! I count on mine for her expert curtain-making skills. The fabric is fantastic, and I love how your mom lined up the print perfectly in the middle.
Love it! If you have any tips for this project, will you share?
It looks so fantastic! I'm going to have to take a look at that fabric store… I live in Chandler :]
Too funny! Looks like the desk I just made. Love it!
Wow- it is just stunning! I love the fabric, the parrot…just everything!!
One question, did you have the glass cut for this table? If so would you mind sharing where and approx how much? I'm looking to do a similar project and am just pricing out my options. Thanks so much!!
I love this. And I love the fabric, I just recovered a chair in this same fabric. We have one of those fabric stores near me and I got there all the time.
Your house is looking wonderful!

of course!
Hi guys!!
I'm emerging from vacation mode for a second to tell you that you can find a great tutorial on how to make a skirted table on The Newlywed Diaries:
http://newlyweddiaries.blogspot.com/2009/08/day-765-no-sew-skirted-table.html
My mom's method was pretty similar.
LEB – I had a 1/4" piece of glass cut to fit and had the edges rounded all at a glass shop (every city/town has at least one). I think the glass was about $25 (by far the most expensive part of this project).
Down pillow – the store is called Home Decor Fabrics. The website is worthless and the storefront is less than enticing, but the inventory is AMAZING. All home decor and upholstery weight fabrics and everything about $5.99/yd.
If I owe any of you a comment or an email, I promise to get back with you soon! Starting last week, I wrote three weeks straight worth of posts so I could go on vacation without worrying about the blog, but now my inbox is swimming with questions and comments. Thanks for all the love and I promise to get back with you ASAP!

This is absolutely gorgeous!!!!
It looks so chic! I feel like if i did that it would look all Holly Hobby, but your Mom did a great job! Beautiful fabric!
WOW!!! It looks incredible. What a perfect little nook in your house. Gorgeous fabric. Mom's rock.
I WOULD absolutely believe that your mother whipped up that beauty in no time flat because its obvious the two of you share some of extreme genetic propensity for turning stuff awesome. Or maybe its divine. But those are the only 2 possible explanations.
Best-

Love the fabric (we have that store!) and the parrot… but what really catches my eye are your watercolors. They'd be very happy here in my house!
Wow, your mom is awesome. The table looks fantastic. I love anything Ikat, so you're speaking my language here.
That looks so nice! I've been putting of buying a console table because the nice ones are so expensive, but this looks like the perfect solution. Thanks for posting!
Oh my gosh, I am green with envy. I want you Mom and table, ha!
This is adorable! What a fun project! I actually need to make a skirt for my Mom but I'm a little intimidated.
I love it!!! AMAZING—like mother like daughter!!
I.love.it. I found some great fabric recently and I'm waiting on my mom to whip me up a skirted table. I can't wait. I love the way they look.
oh my, it's gorgeous! I love seeing into your dining room too.
Very nice! A skirted table solves a lot of design dilemmas doesn't it?! I've been looking for a narrow little table to put my flat screen TV on–this looks just right.
thanks for the inspiration.
The fabric is so great! My mother is a fantastic sewer too-yet another reason to love my mom! The table looks terrific!
* STUNNING, ESPECIALLY with the parrot… funny how he (she?) just "MAKES" it all such a "PERFECT VIGNETTE"!!!!

Just found your blog through Urban Grace Interiors. Love it! I love this project, and your blog is full of wonderful ideas and inspiration…can't wait to read more. Coincidentally, I live in the next city over from Mesa, AZ and I believe Home Fabrics is closing up shop…such a shame, because it was one of my favorites. Maybe that's why you got such a great deal on that ikat.
My mom is a crafty lady too! We are lucky to have them to show us so many things!
Oh my, where am I? It is lovely here. I mean, great skirt but really lovely blog, cannot wait to read along!
That turned out so beautifully, I want your mom to give me a tutorial!!!
sweet, sweet ikat. i'm wondering if i'll ever tire of that print.
i adore this! totally inspired by current living room make over! i heart your blog
Very nice look! Your blog is lovely.

Ok, I grew up in Mesa and I always forget about this place. I think I'm going there next week and I'm going to try to make something like this for my desk that needs some help.
I love the team-work you and your mom have going. between your fabric and her sewing you both have much to be proud of.
I also noticed/admire your prints above the table. the one on top especially looks like one i have. Mine is by Van Doorn and titled Port Malines. Mine even has a gold frame and french mat like yours. such good taste. :)

I can believe it! I'm still amazed at the beautiful panels you made!
